Re: Using a single active subwoofer

I've done a little research, and have found a speaker that seems perfect for me, at a great price. QTX Sound QT15SA 15 Inch 600W Active Bass Bin Speaker. Cost = £99.

Here's where I get confused. I'm posting a link to the controls, which I really don't understand, in the hope that someone might be able to explain them for me.

  imput level is to be able to adjust the sound level as to not overpower the other speakes , feq is to adjust the bass sound level , to compasate for what the other speakers are handling to be able to have the bass speakers play what the top end speakers cant  hope you understand the phase switch :?: ,,the thing i an not shure about is the 3 pin connector ,,as to speak on them,,.glad to see you are looking at speaker big or bigger than 12".any smaller speaker will rattle and distort/bump, at low ferquency high volume

I'm pretty sure that the XLR sockets are to send a signal to the amplifier, then onto anothe powered speaker if needed.

All the other stuff is pretty clear to me except that phase switch! What does that thing do?

It´s simply easy:

Input Level: is the volume of the subwoofer
Frequency: is the the range the sub goes up....knob at 100 Hz means, that the sub goes up to 100 Hz and not higher.
Phase: changes the polarity of the speaker. Take the position in which you have most bass
Input Plug in your Master Out from the mixing desk
Through plug in to your Mid/High speaker

Things have changed dramatically - A dealer I know, who supplies factory refurbished units, with 12 month full guarantees, has offered me 2 of these exact same subwoofers for an amazing price...

Guess...

no, not close....

£120 for a PAIR!!!!!!!!! With warranty and everthing!!!!

Should I take him up on this offer?... ;)

And in this case, the THRU will send the INPUT signal directly to another amp or to active speakers WITHOUT been filtered by the sub filter.
Check the manual because some other sub boom box are sending filtered signal based on the crossover setting (hi-pass).

Thanks for the information. I had not thought about the possibility of the output singal being filtered. In such a case I have the option of using the outputs from my other speakers, which I know are not filtered.

I've got my speakers - they sounded great in the showroom! I get to hear them in action at my gig tonight... that's gonna be fun. :D

I got a bargain: speakers, poles for my top speakers, power cables, and xlr cables - all for £130 - not bad eh? :D

My rig as it stands now - all 1200 watts (rms) of it:

Thanks Daniel - I did! I felt so much more comfortable knowing that I had plenty of power for any room or situation. The thought of going to a gig and not having enough volume always scared me!

At one point early tonight, someone asked me to turn the sound down a little - I felt so proud!!!
