Tips for DVS and Hercules RMX

Postby antix on 12 Oct 2011, 01:10

If anyone uses a Hercules RMX with DVS this might be of interest.

I have been getting distortion but couldn't figure it out until today   . Not sure how this would react with Cross.

I have 2 decks set up with time code so I can play through DVS, but sometimes I will mix an old vinyl record in, by using the bypass facility. This is when I get distortion.
After weeks of scratching my head, I have realised that if the pitch control on the RMX is not set to zero (the midpoint) the set up tries to alter the speed of the real (non time code)audio signal accordingly coming from the vinyl . This results in the distortion I was experiencing.

Woah, first time I have read about that and I am stunning! Have you searched the Hercules forum (does it exist?) on comparable issues?!

Hi Steve,

I did try and get some info on the Herc forum (not easy to search on there as so many threads), but did do a post and the advice was that if it works OK with the supplied version of VDJ then the equipment is OK.
That's what I did to isolate the distortion problem and prove it wasn't the RMX, so I didn't post there again.

Most people would use the RMX just as a controller and because the VDJ software that the RMX is supplied with has no facility to run timecode they will never encounter this.
To test this out on VDJ I would have to buy either buy the software or download it (illegally), and I wont do either of those- I just don't like VDJ - (no reason it just doesn't "do it" for me)

I would be interested to try it on a full VDJ set up to see if the problem is the same. Any one else got an RMX and VDJ?

Just noticed that it only does it if the Vinyl Button is deselected when the bypass is selected and the pitch is off zero!!

Strange behaviour of the hardware but I understand Hercules. If you check posts in here with the U-Mix Control Pro and VDJ or Traktor we say the same: Does it work with the delivered software? If so everything is fine on our side. Breaking the boundaries of bundles ends up in issues like you have encountered :-( Could you try the Cross demo if Cross acts the same?! Would be an idea...

When I have a bit of time I'll try that. I was considering selling the RMX on and upgrading to Cross with the U-Mix Control Pro, when I have the funds!!

I just tried Cross. I can't get the fault to replicate on Cross - I think I have tried all the right buttons, and it seems to do the trick.

Time to start saving I think.

The update costs 59€ exclusive taxes as far as I can remember. If you already own he hercules controller you "only" need Cross ;)
