Did you optimate your machine for audio software? There are lots of threads in here with guides what to do. This one is the guide I always recommend ;)

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks Steve, I tried that usign the 2048 setting, but it gives me big problems with the responsiveness of the vinyl- although it does stop the stuttering.
I have done all the optimising tips as the link suggests but hasn't helped. Can the latency for the ASIO be set by me as a user or is it a default?

Thanks James

The latency is directly "connected" to the power of your machine. If you decrease the latency you need more powerful machine to play flawlessly. If you increase the latency you do not need such a good machine but - as you have already mentioned - you loose the vinyl feeling.

I will have to bin the idea of the separate laptop for music then. Never mind, but thanks for your help.

Anyone want to buy a DELL laptop with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD, good for most things but not timecode vinyl

I think I might have sorted this out!! :D :D :D :D :D I Completely re installed Windows 7 and this time installed the 64 bit version( for some reason I put the 32 bit on last time). Then I optimized using this guide that I found after some web trawling, which seems pretty comprehensive
http://www.presonus.com/media/pdf/presonus_optimizing_windows.pdf
I attached my soundcard, then installed DVS. I have just added about 100 tracks to test loading, and set about playing as many tracks as I could to see if the stutter was present. The second track to load stuttered, but the default buffer size was set to 256, so I increased it 1 step. It seems to work. I have been spinning my vinyl back and forward in a complete frenzy, but no stutters.

The only other parameter I changed was the load speed to slow, which doesn't seem to have caused any issue.

I have got my fingers crossed this will continue to work properly.

Crossed fingers over here too! Have in mind that if you install a 32 Bit OS it can only address about 3GB RAM, with a 64 Bit OS you can address a lot more and use the integrated 4GB ;)

Thanks for sharing the link to the optimization!

thanks Steve - I played out using it at the weekend, and it didn't stutter one bit, but there were some other issues I had. The BPM counter on the right deck stopped working, and I had some sound quality issues when switching bypass mode on. So I have decided to stick with my Lenovo for music. I will just have to watch what else I use it for.

I remember other DJs reporting that their BPM counter stopped working while deejaying for more than 4 hours. I do not know anymore if there was a solution or work-around :-( You may search the forums and find the thread(s).

What exactly do you mean with "sound quality issues"? I have recognized that the digital played mp3s sound (of course) much better (?) and different to a "casual" vinyl. If you play only MP3s or only Vinyls you won't hear a issue but if you play a MP3 and mix a "real vinyl" into it you might hear it.

The sound quality issue was using 2 Pioneer CDJ 800 mk2 and I was alternating with another DJ half way through the set. I was on 1st playing with timecode cds, which I calibrated when we set up. When he started playing CD's the left deck was muffled and quiet. It was fine after we by passed the sound card (U-Mix44).

Not to worry at the moment. I've got no confidence in the DELL
for music , if I get the same issue on the Lenovo I'll start a thread on that one ;) !!
