After reading a lot of the threads on here, I thought it would be sensible to run MIXVIBES on a dedicated laptop. So I dug out the DELL I had in a drawer and thought I would try that. I had loads of problems with music hanging for no apparant reason. I downloaded the latency checker to find the system was freezing momentarily long enough to casue these problems. I disabled everything, re installed the OS but nothing cured the problem. I even changed the latency settings to the max, but still nothing worked.
I tried installing XP, but found out the hard way this is difficult to do if Vista is already on, so I went Windows 7. It all works perfectly now, and I learned a wealth of information taken from the threads on the forum while sorting this out, so big thanks to j-kut , blackbrook , daniel clarke and jim b who posted the golden nuggets of wisdom.
My main tip for any new users of mixvibes - bin vista if its your OS save youreslf a lot of time which you could have spent playing with your new toy.

I've been using Windows 7 for about 18 months now with Cross and it's perfect. To be honest, I found Windows 7 to be the best OS so far (and I used them all in the past).
I was using this machine last night and although the Latency checker doesn't indicate any problems, I sometimes get drop out (well more like a jump or stutter) only when I load a track to a deck. I have kept the latency checker running while doing this and there is no detected issue. The only thought that occured to me was if the processor up to the job, because the spec is for a Pentium 3 1 GHZ or equivalent minimum. My old dell is an inspiron 1520 laptop, with a full 4GB RAM 500GB HDD and this processor http://ark.intel.com/products/30774/Int ... MHz-FSB%29 I have "optimised" it for music only and my sound card is a U-Mix 44. If I can't get it working I can use my main laptop, but this is used for everything and would like to avoid this if I can.

It could of been your ASIO buffer size. If this is set to low for your system this can cause audio problems, especially if you are scratching or cue'ing up on your spare deck even loading a new track can do this too.
What is your ASIO buffer set at? (You'll find it in your soundcard control panel.
I would start playing around with this. Start with a high number and slower decrease the buffer size till you get the audio dropouts. Once you get them back of one size.
These are the boxes I get when I open the soundcard tab. When using the ASIO option there is no latency setting (unlike the Direct and Multi audio), and if I click through to set up then contol panel I have the image attached.
