Apologies for bumping this thread, but just wanted to say that the solution of uninstalling everything, installing Cross 1.4 bundle and then 1.5 solved my problem. Just needed that slightly bigger buffer size and now all is good. Thanks for your help.

So I got round to recording my first attempts at mixing (no, you can't hear it, way too embarrassed! ) but ran into a few problems.

My sound is coming via my mixer into my PCs line-in port. This is just a question of not having the space for more speakers in my spare room and as the Creative 5.1 system I have is pretty good, I don't need another amp and speakers - saves me money anyway!

I find that if I use Audacity to record my session, after 10 minutes Cross starts cutting in and out. If I view the CPU usage at this point it's not really any higher than if I turn the recording off, but when I do performance comes back. Seems recording to the hard-drive and writing to the recording file causes problems on my old PC. :(

My solution at the moment is to run another output from my mixer to my work laptop and record on that. But just wondered if anyone had anymore advice? Again, I realise my PC is old, but I'm surprised it can't handle all of this. I've experimented with different buffer sizes and it doesn't seem to make any difference - after 10 minutes of recording, bang, all performance in Cross just disappears.

I have tried this on my former machine (C2D @ 2GHz, 2GB RAM) and I had the same experience as you have: Using Cross and recording the set ends up in a disaster. I am using a MD recorder I have bought at ebay (~20$). This protects me from interrupted sets ;)

Steve

Ah ok. Somehow the fact that you experienced the same problems makes me feel a little better!

I find it a little surprising, but at least I have a solution at present, although it's a little clunky.

Been a while since someone suggested I bought a MD player/recroder  Is there a more modern solution?

On the other hand, looks like I need to save up for a new laptop....

Hey,

if you have an other computer or laptop you can use this at the record system.
I use No.23 recorder. This have a realy easy and low memory used interface. Maybee this software works better on your computer.
Test this recorder.

Christian

Excellent, thank you. I'll give this a try.

Edit: My German is pretty non-existent but I will give the program my best shot!

Hey,

if you need help with the program I can help you.

On the left side you can set the input and also the codec and bitrate and so on. And the Volume (master sound) and on the right side there you can set your ID3 Tags. And also the directory where the record should be saved.

And the three big buttons record, play, pause (break).

This software is very easy and use at my old Intel Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM. I use the DVS 7.4 with 2 MIDI Interfaces and also 2 Decks playing with timecode on the same system and it works very good. No stopping and so on.

regards
Christian

P.S. this software is 100% free.

I tried Recorder No. 23 last night on the same PC that I was running Cross. It was better, but still had a couple of moments where the sound clipped and clicked when I was loading the next song for cueing.

I realised at the end of my session that I did have iTunes open though at the same time. Will try again next time.
