several issues after updating to Cross 1.5.0

Postby DeeJay-Vaughn on 09 Jan 2011, 19:50

hey guys, i have some issues after updating to Cross 1.5.0. and a pretty frustrating experience in the club last night...
im using a mac 4gb ram, after the update everything worked fine so far but after an hour of playin in the club, i noticed sync issues on payer b that got worse and worse, then i could watch the time code quality go lower and lower down to like 40%...all the connections and settings was propper, calibration before i started spinning was fine 100%...so i restarted the mac calibrated again (wich was pretty embarrasing in a packed club)...
calibration 100% again, but still sync issues, then the software added another thing, it started the track just somewhere in the middle i always had to actually get the needle of the record slide manually back via trackpad or sometimes i even had to upload the track again into the player...this lasted for like another 30 minutes until player a pretty much stopped workin, i couldnt do anything with the vinyl anymore...so i had to close my area down... i recheck all connections everything was absolutely fine...there was no software running in the background...i never had any issues before i updated Cross...hope yall guys can help me coz i have another set next weekend and need this to work...thanks in advance

Did you have the same issues with earlier Cross versions? Do you mention this issue at home?

I can totally understand!

So it seems as if your equipment in the club was faulty. This does not explain why it worked well for some hours but it is my guess. Maybe your mac became too hot and was slowing down?! Is there a way for you to reproduce this error? Can you test Cross at home for some hours?

A pro argument for the faulty equipment in the club. Maybe some frequencies that were added to the timecode so that Cross interpreted it as if it is running faster.

Something get worse during that time, we need to found what.

so i restarted the mac calibrated again (wich was pretty embarrasing in a packed club)...
calibration 100% again, but still sync issues, then the software added another thing, it started the track just somewhere in the middle i always had to actually get the needle of the record slide manually back via trackpad or sometimes i even had to upload the track again into the player...

did you try in absolute mode to see ?

this lasted for like another 30 minutes until player a pretty much stopped workin, i couldnt do anything with the vinyl anymore...so i had to close my area down...

did you still have timecode going into the soundcard ?
what quality ?

i recheck all connections everything was absolutely fine...there was no software running in the background...i never had any issues before i updated Cross...hope yall guys can help me coz i have another set next weekend and need this to work...thanks in advance

Very weird and embarrassing I must say.

I don't thing this is related to the version, because there are a lot of Mac user that have and use the 1.5 for more than 1 hour.

A tip that can be helpful and avoid stopping everything in a packed area is to use only one turntable with the invert control deck command (keyboard or MIDI).

hahaha yes it was very embarrasin indeed, i had no idea what was goin on, i had timecode loss during like 5 sings from 100% down to 40%...
kinda interessting that it happend again after the restart and calibration, just in less time then an hour...

the mac bein to hot couldnt be the issue, i had it on a laptop stand and the area was actually and old subway tunnel that was kinda cold, so overheatin couldnt have been the issue and i checked for that, the mac wasnt even warm...

tried the absolute mode, same issue

i still had timecode goin in but it pretty much was all jacked up, different speeds, track sounded like its skippin sometime and on the screen u could tell as well that its not runnin smooth...

i used different timecode records to see if there was an issue with that, but same thing...

the equipment in there was new, used it a couple of gigs in there before without any issues and i swear (lol) all cables have been connected the way they should be...

so what do u guys suggest? i will see today at home if i have the same issues with my turntable here if so how to fix it? should i just deinstall and reinstall the cd version coz i never had issues with that...

You can go back on a version if you want but I'm sure this will not change anything.

When the timecode quality drop to 40%, how was the drawing ?
Still round ?
Still large or became tiny ?
Looking fuzzy, noisy on the shape ?

the drawing was still fine it just didnt run smooth anymore, was stoppin and skippin like the actual song sounded via the speakers...
i just tested it again on my turntables at home, after exact 41 minutes the same issues occured, player b sync issues, then player a skipped and dropped out, no chance to do anything with the vinyl...interesting was as well that when pressed the sync on player b, player a started skipping for a second...
well this issue started since ever i updated, never had monitored that before...i really need this to work guys

I need some more detail to reproduce this.
- what mac do you have ?
- the soundcard is the U46 ?
- you only use sync to mix tracks ?
