Windows are easy to fix (if needed) and yes Mac have issues too... most of them are hardware and you can't do anything about it. I think you could now found for cheap a Qxxx (quad) with a good gpu and HDMI output.

window 7 is good But the i3 , i5 & i7 are (word censored 2)...my old p4 runs better than my new i5
Really? I own a Core i7 laptop and it runs great. It runs MV with ease and it can handle Sonar 8.5 and Ableton Suite 8 rather nicely. DPC latency is like around... 70us and absolute max is 500us... 300us if I disable the wireless network. Who made your i5 laptop and what are the specs? From my experience with off the shelf laptops, Macbooks gave me the least headaches in terms of configuration. When I boot camped my old Macbook White, I didn't have to tweak it as much to get very good performance. My HP Pavilion it was like pulling teeth.

Nothing tweaked on my Acer Laptop. Just a clean OEM copy of Windows 7, the Wifi card and Webcam disabled, UAC turned off and that's it. Happy days

I just went to the HP support website to figure out what type of Firewire chip you got. If i guess correctly, since your card reader is made by JMicron, I think you have a Jmicron Firewire chipset. Unfortunately this is the worst type of chipset to have. I heard more horror stories about this one than even Ricoh. In some cases using even a Texas Instruments FW express card doesn't work, but give it a shot anyways. Also if you didn't tweak your laptop do so.

Okay, so here is what I did: - repaired my old machine (~50€) - installed a clean version of Win 7 on my laptop, then U46 MK II drivers, DVS and Cross It worked out of the box!!!!!!!I did the usual tweaks to be on the safe side, but till now it works really really good! Much better than before (could decrease latency!). I recommend everyone a clean installation and a laptop that is only used for Cross or DVS. In former times my laptop worked as an allrounder (usual work and music) but the best solution is when it is running Cross only - nothing else. I know that this is no solution for everyone. In fact if I could not repair my old machine I would have continued using it the way before. Just wanted to let you know Greetings, Steve
