Hey all,
my plan was to use my current laptop (Core2Duo 2x2GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB) as the music notebook for Cross and DVS. I wanted to use my old desktop computer (Pentium4, 2,93GHz, 1GB RAM) for surfing, working, university stuff and so on. So I reactivated it today, it ran 5 hours and then it blew away. As far as I connect a USB device, no matter which, the computer does not start, USB controller issue, something I can not and do not want to repair (cost-benefit analysis).
So I have to do something different: using my current laptop for all the things the computer should do. Now, the attentive reader already knows, I need a new machine for Cross and DVS. After Phaded was recommending it since months I think of buying a mac. It should be portable (Macbook/Pro) and obviously powerful enough to run Cross without any issue. Can anybody recommend a special configuration (specs) or modell? I do not care about the look but the power, I am no Apple fan nor do I like steve jobs, but everybody I was talking to recommended a mac...Can you help me?
Greetings,
Steve

Steve! All things considered, while Jobs isn't exactly the best individual on the planet, his company makes damn good products. I bet Cross 1.4 could've ran on my iPad when NB's laptop couldn't run it Joking aside -- go with what you need and are comfortable with. I catch hell for using Windows 7 when I perform, but I've noticed as of late that things aren't working as well as they used to. OSX and 7 are great OSs, but I've been finding more and more uses for the Terminal than I ever did with the Command Prompt. You can always hit me up on MSN/Skype if you're up for some banter LOL!

This is what I was afraid of...Phaded recommend the mac while Uncle says I should stay with Win7...oh guys...I think I will flip a coin There is a cheap computer in a discounter, which only sells qualitative stuff. Maybe I will buy that one and can use my current laptop for Cross, I know it is running very well on it...but the macs...Johnny is right, when I was using a mac mini with ableton in former times I realised that the power of this damn small device was so huge a laptop I bought afterwards could not compare with it. Oh guys, I smell long nights with less sleep Thanks a lot for your recommendations! Listen to the coin Greetings, Steve

got another one:
If you somehow are planning to use VFX-CONTROL with your new machine then buy a PC!!! Reason for that is quite easy: PCs have millions of years of manpower in developing combined for gaming. So grafics power is amazing for small amount of money. This is where Apple can't compare at the moment. VFX-CONTROL uses the grafixcard for displaying the stunning transitions and fx. Even my more or less cheap laptop can do it without problems (ok, no HD...). This won't work on any MacBook in this quality and for double the price. And as you're not the admin of Mr. Job's bank account, you will have to take care of your money. But in case I win the jackpot in the lottery I'll buy the best MacBook available for you. Take my word!
Cheers Ralf

I guess I will stick to a windows machine. There is a brilliant computer for 600€ near here, so I can use that one for everything else and the current laptop for Cross & DVS. But tomorrow I will try to solve the old machine's problem, if that works everything is fine. Nevertheless thanks a lot for all of your recommendations! With the karma points the Vfx is getting closer, so a windows machine is useful Greetings, Steve
