The way its meant to work is you supply a list of your tracks that you have played (@ the 'station'/'site'/'pub'/'club'), the station in turn pays the royalties for broadcasting the said tracks to a 'public' audience
This is 'meant' to be the same procedure for nightclubs, pubs, radio stations ect...
(The organization for example in Australia is called 'A.P.R.A.';
Even if your own a shop and you play music from the shop, you are also meant to pay a fee to A.P.R.A. for 'broadcasting' to a public audience!(in Australia))Although through my experience, this procedure does not happen as much as it should; so lots of artists never actually get the royalties they are due, which is quite sad really....
