Twitch - The Touchstrip controller

Postby Jim B on 16 Apr 2011, 19:29

Been looking around at different controller manufactures this afternoon and I've come across this on.

It's got a touchstrip rather than jogs. Looks very interesting IMO ;)

A tad too expensive I feel, Steve. Thought it might be a bit cheaper than that mate

What I've been reading about Itch (what a stupid name for DJ software, btw) it's crap, and not a patch on Cross and CrossDJ ;)

Itch is a different version of SSL, but in true Rane/Serato fashion, you can only use it if you have the hardware plugged in.

That being said, the Twitch looks like one hell of a controller, I'd love to get my hands on one at some point.

itch is basically the version of ssl for MIDI controllers like this new novation baby

and i have to disagree with you jim cuz that 470 euros is a fair price for this controller imho. i dont wanna sound too marketingish (im not working in sales, lol) but compare it to the other stuff in the market - its functionality is quite unique with those 2x8 drum/effect/whatever-you-d-like-to-use-them-for pads, the fader effects, and so on. i dont think the touch thing is an advantege tho, i hate these on DJ equipment (im an old fashioned dude) as they just dont work out for me at all
and yea, the pads can be replaced with other gear (the small akai or korg drumpads, or the novation dicer for example) but for those who want these functions in a single controller - its just simply perfect
here s a video preview with itch (theres one with traktor but it basically has the same features shown)

i ll write a short review usig it with mixvibes if i win the outlook competition as this controller is one of the prizes :D

edit: a question for the developers - would the slicer feature work in dvs7/Cross or is it an itch-related thing?

I was thinking about this too and got to the point where I say: If it should work as a jog, why shouldn't it be implemented like it and mapped that way?! So my answer would be yes, it might work :D But this is just a guess ;) Don't rely on my words :P

no no im not talking about the 'basic' usage cuz since its MIDI it doesnt really count if its touch or jog controlled, im quite sure that it works with every DJ software.
the 'slicer' is the one feature that is shown at 2:24 in the video i posted which is basically an advanced hotcue/sampler thing that you can set/edit on the fly. i think with this feature and the controller s 2x8 pads its a powerful weapon in novation s hand against other companies' products - this is the only thing its better than the U-Mix Control Pro (or any other controller) and will be the only reason why people will buy it for, anything else is just the same like on every controller (not counting the touchstrip which is just a shiny and luxury bullsh*t in my eye)

Oh damn I misunderstood ...

Indeed! The slicer can be a very powerful weapon, this is what I thought after I have seen the feature in your posted video!!! Something cool to play with!

The Slicer looks like an Itch-only feature.

As a massive touch strip fan, I'm considering picking one up even more :D
