Help! "MIDI Driver Vfx Control cannot be opened"

Postby thriftshopxl on 13 May 2011, 19:16

Hi,

Been using Vfx for about two weeks.

everything was great until a few days ago until I got this message each time I open Mixvibes: "MIDI Driver Vfx Control cannot be opened"

Software works fine and 'knows' controller is connected but it won't respond.

The controller shows either the blue light or when I press it, I get the hibernation chaser lights (left to right LED motion).

I successfully updated to latest version fo Vfx the day I received it all and all was fine until recently.

I don't think I've made any great changes to my system.

I have, of course, uninstalled the software, rebooted, re-installed and re-updated, etc. a number of times and now I don't know what else to try.

Do any of you guys have any ideas for me to try?

Thanks in advance.

"Just" the MIDI part seems to be broken.

Can you try loading a mapping for the Vfx controller from the download section and copy that one into your current MIDI mapping folder of Vfx? It is worth a try.

From what I know about the Vfx controller it is installed correctly when it behaves the way you described.

Which changes did you make? Even if it are no great changes it might affect Vfx - who knows.

Seems as if one of the smaller changes affects Vfx...I am not sure, but maybe...

Try to figure out what you have changed and undo it. Try a system recovery to a date where it had worked. Just a try.

Hi Blackbrook,

Thanks for your many helpful suggestions. I still haven't managed to work out what is wrong with my setup though.

I did notice that after uninstalling, but BEFORE re-installing and updating to Vfx 1.2 that Win 7 installed a driver for the Vfx - what I mean is, I didn't have the software disc in my machine, but plugged in the Vfx controller and Win 7 autmatically installed a driver. It all happened so fast I didn't quite catch what it installed (something along the lines of 'USB Composite Device' or similar, which I am guessing is what has caused my problem).

I work in AV/IT so am pretty computer literate but I'm finding the Mixvibes site difficut to navigate and certainly cannot find the mapping for the Vfx controller from the download section and until I do, I can't copy that one into my current MIDI mapping folder of Vfx.

I am loathe to be rolling back my system unless I really have to due to unexpected consequences to my other editing software/work that resides on the sytem. Of course, if I can't solve this soon then I will have to do that...

So, I guess what I am asking is, does someone here have a link to the Vfx driver that I can re-install to see if this sorts everything out?

Hello,

So if it is just the controller that is not working and it used to work. Here what i would do is uninstall the Vfx Control using the Korg USB MIDI unistalled, i would then uninstall Vfx, reboot, reinstall Vfx, this should help you out. Here's a link to the un-installer:

Thanks for this quick reply.

I will try this when I get back to my studio later today.

I am assuming that the Vfx Controller Driver software is based on the content at the Korg link you have given me. If I am incorrect in my assumptions, please feel free to tell me otherwise :)

I will report back whether this was successful, when I have some results.

(Because I find it frustrating when browsing tech forums and the original poster never comes back to tell us whether the solution was found)

Thank you.

Hello, no the Vfx and korg are not related, but the link i gave you is to allow you to uninstall the Vfx MIDI driver.

I tried with the Korg software but I'm still getting the same issue.

Things to note:

I found it at the KORG UK support site: http://www.korguksupport.co.uk/page.cfm ... indows%207 (Win 7)

The software "uninstdrv.exe" can be found as part of the DRIVER download at this site, even though you don't need the driver from KORG you will receive the uninstaller which allows you to remove non-KORG equipment (this is not obvious from the site at first glance and took me some research to get to this point). There are 32bit and 64bit version for XP Vista as well as Win7

Whilst attempting to uninstall Vfx driver, I did notice that the controller had only the MIDDLE few lights lit permanently (Some of the ACTIVE EFFECT and some of the SMART LOOP LENGTH lights).

In the KORG unist... the option I chose was corrupt device (or similar, don't remember exactly)

Uninstalled software, rebooted, re-installed software, NO JOY.

Tried both with-and-without Vfx controller connected, rebooting in between each stage of install/uninstall (as far as possible - can't install Vfx WITHOUT controller attached, so at least my system 'knows' the controller is there...

I really don't know what else to try, apart from the dreaded 'clean' install of Win 7.

Do you have any more help you could give before I take such drastic action?

I have all my work tools (Adobe software) on this machine and I am NOT looking forward to re-installing my entire CS4 suite again too!

Thanks

Try installing one more time Vfx, use ccleaner to clean all cookies and things, un-install the asio audio driver and then re-install Vfx, if that does not work and you don't want to re-install your system try to create a double partition of your system. Hope this will help you out!
