Yes, you don't need meters if you don't have control on them but you'll be left wtih a huge grey block in the middle of your GUI.

Instead of a master knob, what would you say about a preferences to set master output ? 0dB by default (so for ones that don't care it is ok) and you can input value as you wish from 0 to -something.
