How to record a vinyl session

Postby Roman_95 on 28 Oct 2016, 18:11

Hello all,

I would like to record a vinylonly set at home. I'm using the xone 23C, 2 technic 1210's turntables and records (of course). I tried to look on the internet for a usermanual on how to record a set with only traditional records, but i did not manage to find one.

What do I have to do to record a session? To be precise, i'm NOT using timecode, just traditional records.

I was checking my Cross LE preferences, but I couldn't select my turntables in the input section....

Thanks in Advance!

 two issues might be present ,,
one the softwarew ver for x zone ..
two when useing the audio selection external mixer out ,, the master out put doesnt go back thru Cross to use the record function ,,
check the manual for how to select external inputs to the decks
also look att the link i am putting with this posting ,,,its old but still revelent ,to rec externaly

Thanks for your reply, I managed to select the inputs in the control decks section.

A strange thing is occuring:

when i'm playing records and my MacbookPro is connected to the Xone 23C by the USB cable that goes along with, a very strange noise is coming through, ONLY when the cable is plugged in my computer.
The noise sounds a little like a whiplash or something.

Does this mean that my records are not clean enough, or has it something to do with the cable or the frequenties?

Many Thanks

 dont use tc or external mixer in my set up ,, the discription ,,whiplash is pretty un informative .. is the noise present only when using usb connection to computer ,,weather playing tracks or not ,, have you set up the system as per manual ,trying to isolate if its a ground fault hum from improper grounding ..are you running computer on battery or plug in ,, more info .as to what you have tried too do to figure out whats causing this whiplash noise

The noise is only present when my macbookpro is connected with my mixer xone 23C via the usb cable while I am playing a record AND while running Cross LE. If the cable is plugged in my macbook but i'm not running Cross LE at the same time the noise is not present. It doesn't mather if my computer is on battery or plug in, as I've tried both.

What I noticed further is that the noise is not occuring if I leave the channel fader plus minus at the middle of it's range. At that point I can turn up the volume of my monitor as much as I would like, but at the moment I raise up the Channelfader into its highest position, a sort of lashing noise like a whip makes starts to occur... (the noise only occurs if playing records)

I'm using Krk Rokit 5 G3 monitor's, and I don't know what the problem could be related to the grounding.

 sound like cliping /distortion ,from too high of a line input ,, have seen post in fourm of the x zone set up having issues with distortion /too much bass ,, not shure if this is the cause ,, in the software not shure if the limiter function will correct this,, check in preferences and see if you can /have the limiter enabled and does this make a difference
also whenplaying thru the inputs of Cross what are you chossing phono or line input ,,and what out put does your tuntable put out ..

hmm... I don't think it is about the bass, I think i'm using the wrong preferences as I'm completely new to recording en using the Cross LE software. Could you maybe help me setting up my audio en vinyl preferences correctly? In what mode should my routing mode be? Is it possible to post pictures in here of my settings, that would make things a lot easier
