DVS on a tablet

Postby dan01d on 26 Oct 2016, 00:36

Hi all,
I have a simple question to which I cant fond an answer anywhere.
I have DVS Ultimate from a few years ago and my laptop is leaving this world after a long life, I would prefer to replace it with a tablet of some description but being able to use my time code vinyls are a priority.
I still have u-mix44 and the vinyls btw
So how can I make this happen? will DVS Ultimate run on a tablet running windows 10 home, or do I need to buy something else, or Cross or something?

thanks!

Hi Dan,

As you may know the DVS Ultimate is an old product and we actually no longer offer it to customers.

Having said that as an already existing customer you can try and download it from get.mixvibes.com

Be warned though, some people have had trouble downloading it, and a few more have had trouble installing it on their new devices as it has not been updated in nearly 6 years.

My suggestion to you would be try your luck as it costs you nothing but do not be disappointed if it does not work especially seeing as you are on a tablet which probably won't be compatible.

Feel free to contact us at support@mixvibes.com to discuss this further.

yeah, cool, it should be noted that I havent yet purchased a tablet as one of the pre-requisites is that I can run some kind of vinyl timecode or another on it..
I already have the install for DVS Ultimate.
whether or not this means buying an android tablet which I would prefer to than a windows tablet, but I cant seeem to find any legible info on how to run timecodes of a tablet at all, it seems Cross can do it, but can I use my U-Mix 44, as a device, granted sound quality isnt so great thru it..

does that make sense?

How did you get on with gathering info on your concept?

To answer your question... DVS Ultimate will most likely run on windows 10; but it could get ugly. its and old software and wont be fully compatible with today's technology. it would be advised to you to consider upgrading to a version of Cross that supports your choice of hardware (if not the full version).

i have tried this in the past with MixVibes Cross... and, it pleases me to say that it worked fine. i used Asus Tablets with Win10. Both these tablets support OTG so connecting a soundcard (in this case the MixVibes u46djmk2) was possible using the drivers provided in the downloads section of this forum.

only real snag was that one of the tables uses the same micro usb port to connect the soundcard and the charger... when the soundcard was plugged in, i couldn't connect the charger. i never got round to testing it using a powered usb hub, that may solve that problem (a usb hub would be required if your audio device and controller were separate).

I also tested the tablets with an Alan & Heath Xone:dx. this is both an audio interface and MIDI control surface. again, everything was setup as normal with the drivers provided from Alan & Heath's support website.

Both time code vinyls ran fine with an acceptable latency, saying that... you wont be scratching or anything with it. the time codes used most of the resources available so although stable, your only going to get old skool deck to deck lol.

Without the time codes however, it runs great with just a MIDI controller and ASIO audio. you wont get the best out of the software but but you could for sure use it in public with no problems at all.

If you choose just to use the MIDI controller then you will for sure get a powerful enough windows tablet to suit without spending lots of money... windows 10 is free to use on devices that have less than a 10" screen size, so keep that in mind if your buying new... an inch can cost ya mega bucks.

If you have any question, feel free to ask...

oh, and another thing... if you like that DJ real feel. stick to windows (For now anyways). and dont be afraid to buy a windows tablet, its really easy to take windows out n put android in on 99.9% of them :)
