Remix live for mac- Changing colors on MIDI controller pads

Postby Paleaura20 on 05 Sep 2016, 01:50

I just got remix live for mac and everything works well, but I have one issue. Changing the colors for the samples are no problem, but there's nothing on the app that shows you how to change the color on your MIDI controller pad to match the color of the sample slotted in the same spot in the app. I'm assuming that it's MIDI mapped to do this, but no clear explanation of how to get it done. Feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Not familiar with Remix, so I don't know if Remix sends any color info.

Nevertheless the general steps are:

You need access to the MIDI mappings file. Basic is to edit with a plain text editor.

Check the MIDI mapping codes of your controller. This has to be provided by the controller manufacturer. You need to know which color has which code.

Now you can start by reading the mappingsfile and trying to figure out where the conditions are triggered to activate/deactivate/change color of a pad.
Once you find it you can add/change the code for the LED.

It may be that your way of lighting require adding conditions for coloring. Likely resulting in copying large parts of the code.

Though the MIDI protocol is very much standardized there are no standards for the colors. Even for different controllers of the same manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, remix live supports RGB. In their main promotion picture, it shows a livid base controller with a variety of colored pads. I've gone into their MIDI editor to see what I can change and it seems like whatever I try, it doesn't seem to work. For example, when I go into the color ID section for a specific pad, I can change the value, but the color doesn't change.

This is really frustrating. If I can't get it to support matching pad colors to the sample, then I want a refund. That was one of the biggest reasons why I got the app and if it doesn't work, that's a deal breaker for me..

In the MIDI output section, normally an LED is turned full on with a value of 127 and full off with a value of 0. For intensity capable LEDs the value from 0 to 127 determines intensity. For multi-color LEDs take 128 divided by 16 resulting in 8. That gives you 15 colors and off. Eight values for off are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7. The next color is for values 8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 an so on. Which color is which depends on the manufacturer's applied MIDI table.

Thanks for the reply. You're exactly right. The problem though is when I look at these different settings, the values go from -100 to 100. It's not a typical 0 to 128 MIDI value setting

Hello Paleaurea, did you eventually found a solution to your problem? Also, which controller are you using?

Dear Mix VIbes

Please clarify ... what in the MIDI mapping controls listed for REMIXLIVE delivers the output to the controller ...

where do we change the MIDI number or value to color change the button like

orange off state - blue playing sample ...

as mentioned above - there is no 0-127 value anywhere

when I mess with the colour id parameter it changes the sample colour allocated on the software not on my controller

I have an Behringer LC-1

and color changes can be done ... see here at whats possible in tracktor

https://youtu.be/1b8QGtBabz4

but i can't find anything to change in the MIDI mapping in remixlive

Surely someone knows ???

screen grabs would be good to see ...
