Xone 23C plays only a few seconds

Postby RandyFisher on 14 Jan 2016, 16:17

Hello alltogether,

I just bought the Allen & Heath Xone 23C and I'm trying to use it with Mixvibes Cross LE. The problem is: Mixvibes only plays a few seconds on the Xone 23C and then stops playback. If I unplug the mixer and plug it in again, the playback works again - still for a few seconds until it stops.

I tried using the mixer with other software like VLC - and playback works fine for the whole time.

If I configure Mixvibes to the internal soundcard of the PC - the playback also works. Only Mixvibes + Xone 23C seems to be a problem. Is there any solution for this?

My system specs:

i5 4690K
16 GB RAM
ASUS Z97 Pro Gamer
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Xone 23C 64-Bit ASIO Driver
Mixvibes is running on an SSD

My guess is that the soundcard is in use by multiple programs and/or the OS.

As you just started it may be that the analysis function takes to much, but this would normally have audio dropouts as 'worst case' and not full silence.

The playback stopping without touching a control is typical for loosing the set output channel, e.g. by disconnecting USB.
Just recently someone had an issue seeming similar with YouTube (via Win) using the same soundcard as Cross.

Please also check if you use the latest Xone drivers.

One more: check if increasing the buffer size (preferences > audio) makes a different. It can for some soundcards be that it is to low; make it way higher and if it than works gradually decrease till the dropouts start.

Seems, I found the solution. I used the front USB and had a too high latency and got USB droppings. After changing to the back USB directly on the mainboard, the playback seems to work.. first time, Mixvibes played a whole song :D

Well, technique...

Great it works but it may be good to find the real issue.

First of all changing usb port may have triggered a (partial) reinstall of the driver.
Normally any usb port should work, unless it is underpowered which could be if multiple power taking devices are connected to the same usb host (a host can have multiple ports).

Well, the front USB I used first, is mounted on the computer case and not directly on the mainboard. Maybe this is the reason, why it could be underpowered or have a too high latency? There is also an wireless transmitter for the mouse using the second front USB port (the whole front panel is connected with 1 cable to the mainboard).

So, I think all of the front USB ports are sharing the same power. Didn't had problems with it before, but could be possible the Xone 23C needs more than the other devices.

Not sure what you mean by the usb latency. If so you may want to check for new drivers of your PC.

Most controllers require quite some usb power.
