Cross using all my RAM

I'm having a bit of an issue with Cross.

On average, I play for between 4 and 7 hours at every gig, and after about six hours, Cross has used all my RAM and starts to freeze every time I load a track. The GUI and controller LEDs freeze, but controls carry on working and I can use smartseek on my controller to keep a song going until either I have iTunes open or the new song has loaded. It's quite tense! Once I've played a song in iTunes and restarted Cross, it's back down to using 900mb of RAM.

I'm running Cross 3.3.10 64-bit on Mac OS 10.9.5. I only have 4GB of RAM, and as I write this it occurs to me I can just buy some more, but still... I used to run Torq on a laptop with 1GB of RAM and played equally long gigs.

32-bit version probably uses less? Can't hurt to try.

With 4gb ram you just partial advantage over 32bit. This is however good to know.
Are there any specifics to your way of working or you using 3 to minutes tracks sequential.

Yes, mostly just mixing in a new song every 3-4 minutes - no samples or loops; no video, and most of my music is iTunes purchased AAC or 320kb MP3s. Occasionally Apple Lossless and WAV, but not many.

Sometimes songs that haven't been analysed cause the same kind of freeze. No response from the GUI for as long as three minutes, and I just have to keep smart seeking back into the old song to prevent it from going silent.

An other user reported a mac issue at 21000seconds repeatedly. Maybe this is somehow linked.
3 minutes analysis is pretty long. No idea what could cause this. Maybe some process is active that causes delay. File syncing, hdd over 90% or such.

The eratic load behaviour has happened more or less from the beginning. I switched to Cross on a fresh install of Mavericks in the last week of December, with about 300GB free on a 750GB drive at the time.

I'll try and get more RAM today and see how that goes.

Hi,

If you don't play videos, I suggest you unload the video plugin if you haven't already (in Cross' settings). It pre allocates memory when active, even if no video are loaded.
If you want Cross to be able to access more RAM (once you've got more), you'll have to run the 64bit version (selecting 32 or 64bit is in the "Info" of Cross.app, from the Finder).

Nonetheless I'll see if there isn't a new memory leak. That would definitely make the RAM usage grow endlessly... until crash.
