Importing new tracks

Postby DJ Vintage on 21 Feb 2015, 10:57

Hi folks,

Let me be the one with the newbie question for a change. I haven't noticed before, since it wasn't something I was doing, but last week I needed to add a couple of single tracks that I put in their respective (alphabetical) folders. And then I realized I have no clue how to get those into Cross. There is a smart playlist that you can use for recently added tracks, but that -obviously- only works with tracks already added. So I ended up making a list (by hand) of the artists and tracks, then add them one by one from the file menu in Cross. This seems a bit of a roundabout way of doing things,

Now, I remember from my days with Traktor (I know, I know) that you could set it to either automatically or manually check for new tracks in your collection location (files, not added to Traktor) and then choose to add them.

Is there a way similar to the way Traktor does it, to check on new files in the track location that you use in Cross? Something I have missed or overlooked?
If it isn't, that means I will have to change my workflow for adding single tracks a bit in the future.

Thanks for putting up with a noob! LOL

Greetinx,
Chuck

p.s. Don't forget the DanceFair 2015 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Today and tomorrow!

This is exactly how I do it, I have genre folders and their respective playlists in CrossDJ. After moving tracks to the end folder I immediately import them to the correct genre playlist.

It's somewhat of an in-between phase I am in. I am in the process of moving my primary collection (max. 1.500-2.000 tracks) into iTunes. Then it no longer is a problem. I import tracks from my PREPARED folder into iTunes. iTunes tosses it into subfolders somewhere. Then open iTunes in Cross, open the recently added playlist, select all, hit import into collection, run analysis and done.

But until that iTunes library is ready (another month or two I am guessing) I'd love an easier way than one by one import, LOL.

If you drag a folder on the collection node all sub folders will be imported.
If you drag a root folder all of your tracks will be imported if not present.
Be aware that also tags are checked against the file tags.
I would occasionally make a backup so you always can go back.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for.

When I try to drag n drop in the collection pane, or the tracks window (or what ever you call it)...I get the circle with the line drawn thru it....I have 8.1 also, does this have to do with admin rights? If so, how to fix it?

thx

With 'collection' node I mean the square one at the left in the nodedock (the grey ones).
From your description it might be that you drop it in the black area of the collection.

OK, let me try to summarize the solution:

You open your files node (left hand side, grey icon), select the root folder (if you added tracks in various sub-folders) or the folder you added several tracks into), drag it to the collection node (left hand side, top grey icon) and release. It will then scan your (root)folder and all the sub-folders and only add the new tracks? And it will not add doubles or anything?

Did I get that right?

That would certainly solve my problem :D

Thanks for all the replies so far, guys (and gals).
