To move to a Mac or not to move to a Mac...

Hey guys,

You can all see my current PC spec in my signature. I've had this laptop nearly 4 years now. Slowly but surely things are going wrong with it (had to buy both a USB soundcard and WiFi adapter due to the on board versions dieing).

So...if I was to take the plunge on the standard 13" MacBook Pro - as shown here http://store.Apple.com/au/buy-mac/macbook-pro, with the 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor - would I see a big performance increase with Cross?

For spending that amount of money I'd want to be future proof for at least another 3-4 years or so. I could spend more to make that certain, but I don't have more

you will for sure get a boost in overall performance as bout RAM and PCI-e HD as much faster then on your old windows PC.
As for Cross boost it depends. That Macbook will have no problem to handle anything you trow at Cross, so if you have problems with you Windows laptop handling Cross there for sure is going to be a performance increase.

I use a mid 2012 Macbook Air 13" 1.8 i5 dual core 4 Gb ram 128 GB PCI-e HD. All quite less then the Macbook your thinking of getting, mine is preforming like a dream with Cross, so that Macbook should be a safe bet.

The only thing I don't like about those Macs is that they only have 2 USB ports. When you take away one for your controller or audio interface, you're left with one USB port for thumb drives. This is assuming you ever have to share your rig with other DJs, but I do, and only having two ports is a serious annoyance. I know I can mess around with hubs etc, but it's not fun and leaves more things to go wrong.

That said, my old Macbook from 2006 still runs pretty well for such an old machine. Macs are not as well made as they once were, but they still tend to outlast just about anything out there.

check the specs on mine and my is a refurbished model and i dont have any issues with it..pretty soon imma max it out to 16GB of ram and i can add another 1TB HDD or SSD, i also have 4 USB hubs 2-3.0 USB and 2-2.0 HUBs so far i ahe no complaints bottom line its ur prefrence in what kind you wanna get.
