Timecode sine wave amplified - one deck turntable setup

HI,

I’m having some trouble setting up Cross with my soundcard, a new Steinberg UR 44.
Laptop : i7 4700Qm – 120gb SSD – 1tb HDD - 8 GB ram – external mixer Vestax pmc 05 pro II – Steinberg UR44 – Technics SL1200

I’m trying to connect one turntable as control surface for deck A, deck B is controlled internally by the software. I copy the deck A-> B each time I have made a mix, so I am always mixing in the A deck with the turntable. Basic one-deck DVS operation.
So I….
Connect the phono outputs of the turntable to the UR44 Line IN 5/6
Connect the UR44 line OUT 1&2 to my mixer channel 1 Line IN
Connect the UR44 line OUT 3&4 to my mixer channel 2 Line IN
I setup the Cross software:
Tab Audio:
Input 1 : UR44 Line IN 5&6 Output 1: UR44 Line OUT 1&2
Input 2: None Output2: UR44 Line OUT 3&4
Tab Vinyl/Cd:
Check box deck A
Input : UR44 Line IN 5&6
I need to amplify the signal about 30db to get the control vinyl to calibrate.
Now the MV Vinyl will control the track in deck A but the sound of the timecode, the sine wave is also amplified!
I thought the software would handle this, taking out the signal of the sine wave and just letting the music through? I have tried any number of settings and don’t seem to be able to get rid of it.
All help appreciated!!

Not an expert on tc, but based on topic knowledge it seems your settings are not at right volume. Meaning phono used with a line setting (e.g. switches in wrong state).

If your turntable has Line Out use that one for amplifying. This in 99% is the best matched amplifier for a tt. Make sure switches on mixer are line. Also in Preferences | audio the line in needs to be Line... Unless you have phono then adapt to that.

Thanks for you reply RoJec!

My turntable does not have line outputs, only the standard Technics Phono outs.
In Preferences-> Audio-> Input 1 -> I have changed the input from line to phono on the little dropdown box and back, but no difference. That's what surprises me the most - and also a question for the support team- shouldn't the software be handling this? I.E. keeping the TC signal away from the music output?

as mentioned, not expert on tc. I think it is seperated as setting None to input should work as well for tc.
You'd better await info of someone using tc.

Hello,
sound like you're also monitoring the input signal (the time code). you might want to check the mixer of your sound card and sisable the input monitoring. not an expert on your particular sound card, but it seems to me that your problem is with the sound card settings. You can try muting the time code input in the sound card mixer (not in Cross setting).
Good luck

Benny Bianco gave the right answer. You need to stop the monitoring of the input and it will work. Panel of your sound card.
