Hey, I noticed a mix of 3 minutes will have the file size of around 100 mega (probably more), since all the file formats suggested are very high quality. Since I want to record 1-2 hour mixes (sometime even more) I wanted to ask if there is a possibility to record in 128kbps mp3 format? I just want to be able to send it to my friends later and if it will be couple of gigabytes then it's a problem. Thanks for any help! You're wonderful.

what formats are avaible to record in ,,if mp3 is not avaible ,,(dont think so ) you will have to use a file converter to accomplish this ,, couple off free good ones on the web

I guess file convertor is the only option, just note that if I record a mix in the club of 5 hours, I even don't sure that I have enough free space on my computer to host it. If I record to an external hard drive does it record directly there? Or is it a cache buffer of some sort?

not shure,, play around and see if you can change the path you want the recorded file to go to the hard disk drive ,, not shure about the cache or buffer you asked about ,,as for free space on the computer ,,wellllll

If you download iTunes or have it already since it is free.
You can set it up to create a copy of your imported file. In the settings you can spect the sample rate and format.

The next time you have a high qualify big size track. Open iTunes and the file to your iTunes collection. It will make a copy in MP3 or 4 or whatever format and rate you specified. You can then use that file to be send out and even play it back in Cross.

If you use an external disk you usually can disable the caching. Just Google on how to do.
Using external hdd or a second one has the advantage that read and write is seperated.
If you have various usb devices connected an additional power to the hdd is smart e.g. by a powered hub.

By the way, from the formats Cross is offering, which one is the smallest in size?

In support of the original question I think this needs to be flagged up as a suggestion.

I don't use the recording function but a quick look reveals options of:
WAV
AIFF
OGG
FLAC

It looks like MP3 isn't supported. Can it?
Can you add options so that if desired a smaller file is created in the first place? If disk space is tight then this is more sensible than needing to convert it after.

I'm not sure about the current supported formats but if MP3 it'd be around choosing the desired bitrate from e.g. 320, 256, 192, 128kbps etc. This is what Idan is asking for and seems very reasonable.
