Audio glitches

Postby rmagnus on 13 Apr 2014, 21:09

Hi,

I have some problems with audible glitches in Cross (tried 2.6, 3.0, 3.1) that don't seem to come from USB/Latency issues, but from within the software.
In some situations I often get a short glitch, espeically:

When turning the filter knob clockwise (to high-pass) starting from the off position (12 o'clock) or back to it.
It seems to happen just in the moment when that little virtual LED above the knob in the program window goes on or off. It doesn't seem to happen when going to/from low-pass. This is independant of the eq preset.

When setting a loop, just in the moment you press the loop button. Sometimes also when changing beatloop size.

When I am on pause, then press a hotcue button to play from the cue posision, and then I release the button, and the sound stops. In the moment of releasing the button, there is a glitch. It isn't there when using the regular cue button, just when using hot cue.

I like Cross a lot, but with those issues I can't use it to play in a club.

Thanks for the welcome.
I tried it with different setups. I tried it on a laptop with a core2duo CPU/2.8GHz/4GB RAM under Windows XP and 7, I tried my desktop PC with a core i7 and 16GB RAM under Windows 7 and once even with that demo version for Linux under ubuntu. Latency or cache settings don't make any difference. I have a Pioneer DDJ-SX as controller and sound card, but I tried a different soundcard and even the onboard sound, and I tried with the controller disconnected, just using the mouse. Always the same result.
I think there is not much more that I could try.

Hi. Welcome once more. The glitches have not been reported by others using the setup. Cross is capable of running less than 1ms with the right hardware.
We'll have to figure out which setting is bothering you. Please select one system for this so setup is stable when trying. Also lets use 3.1. Could you provide some settings like capture of general settings and one of audio.
Did you try with quant and snap dis/enabled combinations?

Audio dropouts? Increase audio 'buffer size' value.
FAQ iOS / Android / PC / MAC http://www.mixvibes.com/help/
Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

Ment on the DDJ device.

In the forums you'll find many many topics on audio glitches. Usually something that is caused by a user specific issue (PC, soundcard or Cross setting), or cable problem.
The challenge always is solving it. Only in very rare occasions users find issues that were not solved by beta testing and the release candidates.

The glitches have not been reported by others using the setup.

I was wondering about that, too, since I did search for other reports and didn't find any. But I can't be the only one having those issues.

They were both off.

Ever since mankind tried catching audio and playback later audio glitches exist...
First (moderator) challenge is to have each 'glitch' being identified as what's ment by it... (glitch, drop, hum, slip, delay, .....). But only if the basics seems to be alright.

In your pictures I only notice one somewhat exceptional setting, being the crossfade curve. Maybe you can pick one of the defaults.

If this takes it away than you might be one of those users finding an issue after all carefull testing

Well, I'm a software developer, so I know how hard it can be to find out what users mean when they report a problem. :D
It sounds like a small drop, but it seems to be coming from inside the software, not the connection to the audio device, since it's limited to the channel I use the functions with. So if the fader for channel A is fully up and for B, it's down, I will only hear the glitch when I turn the filter knob for A, but not when I do the same for channel B.

Well, the controller has a knob for the crossfader curve that is connected to that setting. It doesn't really make a difference what I set there.

I'll try to make a small video where you can see (or rather hear) the problem.

does the glitch happen when you use the gui interface to do the same action ,,
if it only on one player ,, and doesnt happen when using the gui interface ,,might want to consider the mapping for the controller  just by getting info as to whats going on when you get your glitch might help in resolving this
