Cross 3+ doesn't read my AAC/MP4/M4A tags.

Hello:

This is so strange, Cross isn't reading specifically the genre field of my AAC/MP4/M4A files, on any other software and even natively in Windows explorer it shows correctly.

Cross is reading everything in the tag except the Genre and I have to re-add inside the program when importing new files

What could be causing this behaviour?

Used Mp3Tag too and no joy, Cross isn't reading the Genre field.

What's even more strange, is that if I write in the genre field any other thing than the default genres ie Houses instead of House or Popx instead of Pop, Cross does read the tag.

So, what's going on?

Cross does read the tag.

If I am right it has to do with standards for tagging values in genre. Only defined genres are to be written in the tag.
Cross allows a more flexible approach in the collection.

The edited tag.

It reads anything that is not a defined genre, so "XXTAY&&" or even [House] (house between brackets) can be read but no House, Rock, Pop or any other defined genre alone.

I'm pulling my hair out with this as I constantly add music of multiple genres into Cross and it's frustrating to discover that the genre is not showing up once imported.

Only MP3 tags are imported properly.

Any ideas?

I guess some taggers don't write the genre when it belongs to the default ID3 list, but rather write an ID.
Could you please share with us a track whose genre isn't showing?

Thanx.

Here's a couple of them.

New files that I have just encode, tagged and checked that the genre field is showing in all the software I could test (including windows explorer) except on Cross.

Thanks for the help.

Hello sylMV:

Do you have any comment after checking out the files?

Cheers
