Timecode problems

Hi
I recently got Cross 2.6, control vinyls and some tables so i could have a timecode setup. Everything is config'd okay, and i get sound and what not and signals are calibrated. However, I am having a few problems. When i scratch, or move forwards and backwards over a beat, there is a crackly sound and sometimes it skips - I thought this may be due to the needles but i notice no skipping when i scratch with regular vinyl. Another issue; whenever I have a channel playing and the volume is down and i turn the vol from 0 to 10 with the fader quickly during a mix the sound will cut out and skip sort for a few seconds and then it will play normally. I have had some other small problems but cannot quite think of them at the minute.
My setup is VMS 4.1 with Sony PS-DJ9000 tables.
I am currently not using any earth/ground cables could this be the source of the problem? (Haven't purchased any yet - thought they would be supplied with the tables)

AMD Phenom II dual core processor clocked at 3.0Ghz
4gb RAM
Realtek HD soundcard
Latency is at about 7ms it was previously at 20 or so as i had problems with 'pops' and 'crackle' noises from time to time however i don't think they has really remedied the problem.
I do think it could be a latency issue but i can't see the issue -.-
