while beatjuggling track jumps

Hi there,

I use a Win7 64bit I-core5 with 16GB RAM and Cross 2.6

all good except one little thing... during my beatjuggling practice I recognized from time to time (especially in fast routines) that one track jumps around... means

after doing a fast routine like back to back from kick to kick (1/4 turn on vinyl) after a couple of times the track jumps to a different point somewhere in the track... (usually 1 or 1.5 turns)... I tried by switching bufferzone... ssdd, tried different vinyl...ssdd.... I use the relativ mode... tried it in absolut mode as well... ssdd

I use the denon DN-X600 and its interface for mixvibes...

do got any tipps or solutions?

Sync has not been an issue, and I've been running Cross for a bit.

Try these settings

Snap [on]: 1 (this means the locators and user modified beatgrid will snap to the beat. Use smaller if you wish, but for all but beatjuggling, you will not use smaller than 1)

Quantize [on]: Doesn't matter, this is only the "retrigger" or "playable" quantization. If it's set at 1/2, you can retrigger every 1/2 beat. 1 retriggers on the beat only

Sync Mode- Cycle, I use this to keep the 1 with the 1 and the 4 with the 4. That way if you mess up a trigger, you can hit sync real quick and the whole thing will be back in shape phrase wise. If you want it to only align to the beat in the bar, use bar, and for beat only, use beat.

Have deck A be the master, and put a really long tech house or techno song on. Make deck B be anything else. IF the songs are grid'd correctly, they will be in sync. All day, every day.

You have to have the correct beatgrid for sync to work, no matter what. I say that, but in my experience, Cross has pretty close to a 95% accuracy with getting the beatgrid right. I have to manually grid 1 out of 100 or so, and probably 4 out of 100 I have to adjust the initial downbeat. This is with new songs, not old and drifting songs. Old songs you WILL have to manually add beatgrid markers and adjust the tempo.

P_Jean was asking, "when does the sync error occur?" Does it happen when a certain deck is master, or when you have both decks playing and both sample decks, or what? When does your issue occur?

The sync system of Traktor is pretty good, but is not as configurable as Cross. Basically, Cross can be set to have the same exact sync as Traktor, but Traktor cannot have the same features as Cross. Traktor cannot quantize your sync, or sync cyles, only bars.

So, if you want it to act like Traktor, set it to the following.

Snap[on]:1
Quantize[on]:1
Sync mode: Bar
Sync Link[on]

Better yet, mess around with the settings, and figure out what works best for how you spin. If you do instant doubles a lot, you'll probably want quantise [on]:1/2. If you play house, and always want the perfect phrasing, quantize[on]:16.

Sync mode is in preferences, under the general tab.

3 options; Beat, Bar, and cycle

(These explanations are while starting the track out of sync with quantize off, but I always leave quantization on and at 1 or 1/2)

If you press sync in Beat mode, the synced deck will match to the beat of the master. To the nearest beat.

If you press sync in Bar mode, the synced deck will match the beat of the bar that the master is currently in. IE. If the master is on the downbeat, the sync will be downbeat. Beat 2, beat 2.

If you press sync in Cycle mode, the synced deck will match the beat and bar of the master deck. IE, the synced deck will match bar 1, beat 4, or bar 3 beat 2 of the master. This will match the round circle indicators up, easy way to think about it. 4 bars of 4 beats, and it will match them.

To add markers and grids, you want to press the little pencil looking button inside the trackhead waveform. It will only appear if you put your mouse over the waveform. From there, you have the ability to move, stretch, double/half, and add/remove markers, and also define the downbeat.

The "EASIEST" way to grid, is find the first downbeat that distinguishable, and define that as a downbeat. Look through the rest of the song, and see if all the major drops and "thick looking" waveforms line up to the 16 or 32 bar indicators in the whole waveform. If they do, and most of the time they will, you are about 95% sure that the track is grid'd correctly.

A quick way to ensure that it is, is set the SEEK to 32, and click through the track, making sure that the original beat matches all the other beats. If it doesn't, adjust it. If the track drifts, add another grid marker with the plus, and repeat the process for the different section. If you still have a hard time with gridding, get on youtube an look up a tutorial about it, or grab a "snare tick" or "metronome" tick track, and have it play in the other deck while you grid your tracks.a

thanks... but not sure if this is the same problem... i do not use the syncing... my problem is during fast backspinning with my Turntables... does this problem affect the syncing?

maybe had a bit unprecise info.

I use my Cross 2.6 with two turntables and the mentioned denon mixer.

if I do a fast backspinning during a beatjuggle routine I got this problem. fast back-spinning => i just beatjuggle with the 1 (kick) for example...

is this really a sync problem? but will try this evening

hey freddyk... i see that you use the dn-x600... i have the same and im looking for a good mapping file for it... would you possibly have it or are u using external?
