Sync mode is in preferences, under the general tab.
3 options; Beat, Bar, and cycle
(These explanations are while starting the track out of sync with quantize off, but I always leave quantization on and at 1 or 1/2)
If you press sync in Beat mode, the synced deck will match to the beat of the master. To the nearest beat.
1...2...3...4... Master
..1...2...3...4... Sync
1...2...3...4... Master
4...1...2...3... sync
If you press sync in Bar mode, the synced deck will match the beat of the bar that the master is currently in. IE. If the master is on the downbeat, the sync will be downbeat. Beat 2, beat 2.
1...2...3...4... Master
..1...2...3...4... Sync
1...2...3...4... Master
1...2...3...4... Sync
If you press sync in Cycle mode, the synced deck will match the beat and bar of the master deck. IE, the synced deck will match bar 1, beat 4, or bar 3 beat 2 of the master. This will match the round circle indicators up, easy way to think about it. 4 bars of 4 beats, and it will match them.

To add markers and grids, you want to press the little pencil looking button inside the trackhead waveform. It will only appear if you put your mouse over the waveform. From there, you have the ability to move, stretch, double/half, and add/remove markers, and also define the downbeat.
The "EASIEST" way to grid, is find the first downbeat that distinguishable, and define that as a downbeat. Look through the rest of the song, and see if all the major drops and "thick looking" waveforms line up to the 16 or 32 bar indicators in the whole waveform. If they do, and most of the time they will, you are about 95% sure that the track is grid'd correctly.
A quick way to ensure that it is, is set the SEEK to 32, and click through the track, making sure that the original beat matches all the other beats. If it doesn't, adjust it. If the track drifts, add another grid marker with the plus, and repeat the process for the different section. If you still have a hard time with gridding, get on youtube an look up a tutorial about it, or grab a "snare tick" or "metronome" tick track, and have it play in the other deck while you grid your tracks.
