Best way to Save a Collection

I save my Collection often and usually give it the filename of: (current date) MMDDYY, example: 071213a.crossdb

After I spend hours: adding Tracks to the Collection, setting cue and loop points, making Playlists and making Sample Banks -- I always Save Collection.

Thus, by the end of the day, my collection folder shows: 071213a.crossdb, 071213b.crossdb, etc.

All good on that -- Just don't want to loose my (valuable) "prep" hours and inspirational work (so I Save Collection periodically throughout the Workflow).

My question is twofold:

Is there a best / recommended method on periodically Saving Collection ?

I don't think Cross "autosaves" the collection. It needs to be done manually or (it saves automatically) upon exit.

Also, if I do manually Save Collection, many times I loose my added items to the (left side) Dock. I usually add File Folder Locations (for music, like "crates") to the left hand Dock, sometimes I add Playlists to the Dock, sometimes History and Recordings to the Dock. This makes things easier to navigate for me.

But when I "Save Collection", it clears / resets the Dock items.
