Error. Please help?

I have an HP G6 running an AMD A8 processor. It has 8 gb RAM and runs on 64 bit operating system.
The problem has started since I upgraded to Cross DJ 4.1.
Once Cross DJ has opened up it asks me to plug in my Soundcard which is obviously the U-Mix Control Pro 2. As soon as I switch this on a message reads Error while opening "Mixvibes ASIO U-Mix Control Pro" Your device is already used by some other processes. Quit them all and retry.
I am not really a computer person so this message means nothing to me except causing me to get annoyed.
If I change the Cross DJ preferences to use the speakers and headphones, i get music coming out of the laptop speakers and I can use the keyboard to work Cross DJ but I have a controller that I want to use and I cant work out why this error message is coming up.
Please help?
Thanks in advance.

sound's like windows is using your U-Mix controller sound card on start up

go start.../control panel/...hardware and sound../sound
to see if windows is using the U-Mix ...if yes, set the sound setting to your laptop sound card

Hi Daniel. Thanks for getting back to me.
I have tried an earlier version and the same thing has happened. Its almost as if the new version has changed something on my laptop and it wont swith back even with the old version.
I have searched the forum and tried everything that people have suggested to no avail.
I am therefore at a dead end.
Is there such things out there as people who fix computers/software for people that use them for music?

The actual operating system doesn't use ASIO so something else is 'capturing' the sound card and not playing nice.

Look to see if you have any other audio application running before you start Cross. If I had to guess, there's a process running in the background that's using the sound card for some reason.

Start by looking in your 'startup' folder to see if there are any audio applications there.

Then, if you log in, once you type your password, hold down shift before clicking to log into windows. If you don't log in, then press and hold the shift key once windows starts up.

Holding down the shift key prevents the startup items from being processed and may 'fix' the issue. If it does, then it's a matter of identifying what's causing the issue.

I'm trying to keep this pretty non-technical, but this should be a pretty simple matter to get this all working. :)

MusicMeister. Thank you. I appreciate the fact that you are keeping it non technical. I am a plasterer by trade and I used vinyl for 20 years and therfore computers are not my strong subject.
I'll let you know how I get on but what you are saying makes complete sense. Cheers.

Well everyone, I disabled ALL programmes on startup and I still had the error sign come up.
I am completely at a loss as to what is going on here.
Very, very frustrating!!!!
I have a gig on Friday which I will have to do with just the laptop. I'm not very happy about this at all.

Since 2.4.0 I've a few times had the odd crash at CrossDJ startup. This has definitely been related to my soundcard and ASIO since when I've unplugged the USB card it has started just fine. And as I plugged it back in and changed the app settings to use soundcard ASIO it crashed again.

The solution ? I THINK it always helped to run 2.3.1 once (and perhaps load a track to see it's working), then run 2.4.0. again without problems.
