Best performance

Postby woody45 on 01 May 2013, 10:41

Just read in the manual:

NOTE By default Cross loads the track completely into the memory of your computer for quick access, which puts some load on the CpU. the amount of memory that may be used by Cross can be configured with the Audio Cache slider in Preferences/General. In most cases you will not need to change the default setting. If you prefer your tracks to be streamed directly from the audio files, set the Audio Cache slider to 0%.

Does anyone know which setting is the SAFEST mode to perform a party?
It happened me unfortunately that my DJ software suddenly closed.
Nevertheless my configuration is more than the minimal specifications
( MacBook Pro, i7, 8 Gb, and two partitions, one specially configurated for Cross DJ running Leopard en absolute just for djing)

I have a clean partition 250 gb, and I prefer to stream the songs instead of loading into memory. Because, most software just crash when the system (OS) get less memory.

Anyone on this forum that use the setting of streaming, and what are your experiences?
Thanks

I have a macbook pro 2.66 core 2 duo, 8gb ram. I set my audio cache to max. I have not had any issues using it like this. The cache setting only goes up to 60% anyway which is less than 5 of your 8gb ram. Think about the size of your tracks you are loading, even if loading all 4 decks with high quality 10 min long wave files, you would never reach 5gb. Using some cache is far safer than without. Especially if you're using an external hdd. Your mac book pro has very high spec's, so the "bottleneck" in your system would be the speed of the hdd - unless your music is stored on a solid state hdd that is. I recommend using the cache.

Thanks for your answer, your explanation does make sense! :)
However, I still like to know what exactly happens after a songs has been playing. Is this played song been removed out of the memory right after reloading another song?

A good tip is to close all your other programs and stuff you don't need during your performance like dropbox or other cloud system, bluetooth, airport etc.... ;)
