Connecting to two amps from U-Mix Control Pro 2

Hello,

I have a gig coming up in a couple of weeks where I'll be using four speakers and two amps. I'd like to use one amp ( 2 channel, 2000 watt) for the smaller monitor speakers and the other amp (2 channel, 4000 watt) for the larger main speakers. How do I go about connecting the amps from the MIDI controller? Currently, I've only used one set of speakers connected to one amp which is connected to the controller using the 1/2 RCA output. Is it possible to use the 3/4 output on the controller to connect another amp or do I need to branch off of the 1/2 output somehow? What kind of cables would I need to do this? I currently have two 1/4 to stereo RCA cables, but I only use one for most basic set-ups.

first question is what is your audio set up in Cross ,,if it dual stero where 1/2 is master out and 3/4 is monitor out for headphones ,, then you would only use 1/2

2 channel 2000 watts ,2 channel 4000 watts ,what type of amps are thease , not regular stero amps ,,
1/4" to stero rca cables ,,,are thease mini plugs ,,,

my thought would be to have a line output from one amp and run that to the second amp .,,,,
bare minium would be to use a splitter cable from the master out to the two seperate amps ,, have to worry about signal hum though

My current set-up in Cross is that 1/2 is the master out and 3/4 is for monitor using headphones (however I do use the jack on the bottom of the unit for this). Is it possible to have the 3/4 output for an additional master out and use the front/bottom jack for the headphones?

The amps are stereo amps made by Seismic Audio. They have jacks for two 1/4 connectors (which I currently use), raw wire, speakon, and XLR. I use one stereo RCA cable (not sure if it's considered a mini plug) to connect from the MixVibes controller (1/2 output) to the inputs on the back of the amp and then speakon cables out to the two speakers.

Is there a splitter cable for RCA that branches out four ways or do I need an adapter to connect from the controller to multiple 1/4 connections for the two amps?

Thanks...and sorry if it sounds a little confusing. This is my first time trying to attempt this type of set-up for a live gig.

not to my knowledge the 3/4 outputs are for monitoring when in dual stero /internal mixer mode ,, thease outputs are the same as what you are hearing in the headphones ,when in this mode
1/4 ' plug is the old style heaphone jack
do either of thease amps have a line out ,output to be used to send the incoming signal to another amp or recorder
other than splitting the 1/2 signal to the two rca plugs to the 1/4: plugs

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the additional info. Here are the links to the two amps I have so you can see what kind of connections are available. I do realize that I could run all speakers off one amp, but I'd prefer to run the smaller monitor speakers from the 2000 watt amp on one channel as I don't want to overpower them.

kinda thought thoes where the amps ,, link to splitter cables,,in my previous reply ,tried looking at the web site for a pre amp with line out puts to use to supply the second anp with ,,have ran multi amp systems ,,the inherently bad thing about this using the splitter is if the cabling creates a humming that will be present in the sound

Hmm...well I wouldn't want that. Which specific cable would you recommend from what they have on offer? As I mentioned before the only cables I have right now are standard left/right (red/white) RCA cables with two 1/4" male connectors on the other end. The 1/4" are what I connect directly into the amp. I could try something else, but if I detect a hum, then I'll probably just use one amp for the 4 speaker setup.

what i would try is a single rca with two rca on the other end ,,male for the single and female for the double ended side ,, get two of them ,,,connect then to the control pro and hook your existing cables too them,,,,meaning one cable to the #1 output ,one cable to the #2 output ,, connect the two cables you have too the double ended female side of the cables (spliter)lets say the two reds too #1 out put splitter ,two white too the #2 outputs cables (splitter) plug in too your amps with the 1/4 in plug like you would normaly doo ,,too both amps keep you out put levels low at first ,,when you power up your speakers and play them turn down the level to ozero on the amps and you should hear nothing ,,then everthing is fine ,,,raise your levels to playing volume then you should be good,,if you hear a hum at low levels then you have issues with this set up ,,,,use good shielded cable for the splitter ,, everthing should be fine ,,,,,best to try this as a set up to see if it works and not as a need to work then

are you planing on running this two anp four speaker set up for ever gig ,,is it a matter of size area requirments ,, too run all four ,,the Ultimate set up would be to get a Cross over control for the set up ,,ie a equilser to seperate the bass from your smaller speaker as not to harm them ,, and the bass to the bigger speakers ,, preferable sub woofers,if you intent is to use the lesser power amp to run the smaller speakers as not to harm then and the bigger amp to run the mains since they can handel the power then this would be proper ,,

Thanks, Daniel This is helpful. I think for now I will try and invest in two RCA splitter cables as you mentioned and see if that works without distortion or feedback.

To clarify a bit more as to why I am using the two amps, my larger speakers run at 4 ohms and can handle up to 1500 watts each. My smaller monitor speakers run at 8 ohms with a peak of 520 watts each. I don't want to run into an issue of overpowering one set of speakers by running it off the same amp...plus I'm not even sure if it's okay to run different ohm speakers off the same amp at the same time. Is it??? The plan was to have the larger speakers running off the 4000 watt amp on one channel with one speaker daisy chained to the other (effectively giving each speaker around 1000 watts if I understand correctly). The smaller speakers would run off of one channel on the 2000 watt amp, also daisy chained to each other (giving each speaker approximately 500 watts, if my understanding is correct). I have run the smaller speakers at lower volumes off each channel of the 4000 watt amp before, but for a live performance I don't want to risk blowing them (plus I'm not sure about the ability to Cross connect speakers of a different ohm impedance as I mentioned earlier). I've never used all four speakers together, so that's why I'm considering ways to use them all at once. The venue size for my event coming up is much larger than what I've done before, so I could potentially get away with just using the two larger speakers, but I wanted to have the smaller ones as a back-up for some extra sound and clarity.
