mediabase - how to organise

OK, so chrome started working and I can post in other boards. Still don't know what the problem is with firefox, but anyway.

I saw someone mention a 'smaller mediabase' to enable easier searching through tracks. I play all sorts of stuff, sometimes within a genre but often mixing multi-genre, but a mediabase with gb of tracks in can be a pain to search through.
I know playlists are one option but that seems to me more useful for specific sets, and I like to improvise.
Is there a way I can just load one or two genres of music, or maybe just a range of bpms, rather than having to have my whole music collection displayed?
What would be the easiest way to set the mediabase(s) up?
So far I've just scanned the music folder each time I've added tracks but this is getting out of hand, it takes ages to look through loads of stuff I don't want at that time.
I'm new to this software so feel a bit like I'm groping in the dark...

Tried smartlists ? it's not too useful in the middle of the set but can narrow down your selection according to different criteria.

DVS has no smartlists :-(

Is the mediabase functioning on DVS the same as Vfx? There are some tutorials on youtube for Vfx, but none that I can find for DVS.

How do I import samples? There's a samples folder in the explorer but I can't find its location. I thought it would be in program files>mixvibes DVS, but it doesn't seem to be there. I can't find an import samples option in any menus either.

Can I clear the mediabase window each time I load the program and scan just the folders I want for that session?
Every time I load it the last tracks I played are still displayed, so is the entire mediabase.

A more detailed PDF guide would be extremely useful...

Group could do what you want as small list.

For the samples you can choose the folder for the /.vibs files.

You can have several collections and allow or not the autoloading of the last one used into preferences/options/general.

Cool, thanks. I'm starting to get my head round it.
I still have this weird problem where if I plug in the U-Mix interface when the laptop is already running, only one channel works. I have to shut down the computer and start it up with the interface already plugged in. Is this normal?

Does it use the soundcard in ASIO mode when only one channel is active ?

Yes, it's always in ASIO as my laptop has no other soundcard. I've heard that many interfaces are a bit funny like this, I occasionally have a similar problem with a NI guitar rig.
