Cross DJ 2.3.0. External ASIO soundcard. No controller, just using mouse and keyboard

I will often be playing a track from e.g. player B, whilst in player A I am previewing a track to choose where to set some locators and/or finding an ideal exact position where to start playing a track.

There are two places where I can visually see the waveform of the track. I have marked these as 1 and 2 in the attached screenshot.

To position it accurately I will be using the top one - marked 1 in the screenshot (for myself when actually playing I have it in scrolling mode)

I do this with a mouse click+dragging in the waveform.

When I do this I get unwanted sound effects - either like a needle scratching or the squealing like holding down fast-forward on an tape player.

Can I do anything to do what I want to do, but not get those sound effects?

Context:
I've been using Cross DJ versions from 1.6 to 2.3 for quite some time. During that time my usage has evolved.

I use Cross DJ during 'Ceroc Modern Jive' partner dance nights where I am playing various songs at requested points during a dance class and then playing almost non-stop music during what we call 'Freestyle' time. Freestyle DJing in our context means selecting appropriate songs and playing them one after another, but with a very short pause between so dancers recognise the breaks between songs and can change partners etc.

Once we play a song we tend to just let it play without mixing it or adding effects.

We will often want to properly review a song to maybe choose to cut out an intro or to find a place to end a song if it's too long.

I think it is because you're in CD mode instead of vinyl, this is the stutter mode.

I've tried toggling between CD and vinyl mode.

Track loaded and playing:
CD mode = I can't change playing position in the scrolling view This is ok. Vinyl mode = yes the stutter happens and I suppose this is to be expected.

Whilst the track is actually playing, for my type of usage if I intend to jump position then I would need it to be instant but without any additional sound effect. If I click on a locator or click into the bottom waveform view (marked as 2 in my screenshot) then this does seem to be fine as long as I single click and release.

Track loaded but not playing:
For both CD and vinyl modes if I attempt to change position to fine-tune setting a locator or start position then I click/hold/drag (marked as 1 in my screenshot) but I will get the stutter effect. This is in both modes.

In both modes, if I click on a locator when a track is not playing then it also produces an unwanted sound effect. If I just click manually into the bottom waveform view (marked as 2 in my screenshot) to jump to a position then it is fine (no sound) but this defeats how the locator function can be useful for me.

For my type of usage, my desire is to be able to easily do the above but without the stutter effect. For clarity, no problem when a track is playing, but yes a problem in both CD and vinyl modes when a track is not playing.

Not sure how niche my usage is, but could this be something that can be turned on/off via preferences unless there is already a way?

Ok I understand and no it isn't possible.
But as a workaround you could jump into the sound by using the << seek >> button. The value of the jump is the number you see there in beats

Just to clarify, I understand that what I desire/need is not possible in the current version, but would this be something to fix or provide options for in a future version?

I don't think so, can't you lower the volume while moving within the track ?

On a domestic cd player when you hit pause and then move into the track you don't have sound but in the DJ world you want to have that sound to know where you're at into the track (by ears).

Even in car audio this happen.

I am currently lowering the volume as you suggest but it is honestly an inconvenience without a controller to do things with two hands.

I understand your comparisions, but with physical players, essentially for domestic personal applications I think people just accept these "sound effects" and it is some sort of feedback that the player is doing what they are asking it to do.

It may be niche, but in my part of the DJ world, and using software, we have the benefit of visual representation of where we are in the track. Software vs Hardware also provides the luxury of configuring to personal needs.

I can understand the desire to have sound based confirmation, but the audio I am talking about is not useful in my part of the DJ world.

The scrubbing type sound heard when changing position within the track is unpleasant (headphones or speakers). This would probably be my main gripe

And based on what you're describing, with my locators [again, great function, thank you] I understand and respect your logic, but from my point of view, if I am choosing to jump to a pre-chosen location via a locator (track stopped) then I would love it, if it didn't plays a micro-seconds worth of audio. This is something that ultimately the coding in the software is forcing it to do, but it doesn't have to.

The key thing I am asking is to please provide options for these within Preferences.
