[SOLVED] U-Mix Control Pro 1 - Volume Issues

Please forgive me if I'm missing something obvious here, but I do have a confusing problem with excessive volume.

Yes, I have read the manual, but it didn't seem to help with my particular issue.

At my gig last night, it took a while to get the volume down to an acceptable level, using the master knob on the Control Pro, but I had to turn it almost to zero to do that. Also, the red led was constantly flashing, which I understand means that there was clipping.

I checked the U-Mix Control Pro volume control (in system tray) and reduced that to about 70%, but it had very little effect.

I didn't want to experiment too much in a room full of people!

I just have a few little questions that I hope will be easily answered ;)

1. Do the gain knobs affect the signal coming into the unit, and would their use reduce the clipping?

2. What effect does the program in the system tray have? Does it actually Control the volume of the Control Pro itself, or the volume going into the controller?

I'm sorry if these are silly questions!

  i also noticed the increase in audio volume ,allowed for me to not tax my sound system as hard ,,the master control knob on the controller control the gui, also the faders  qurious as to the bar meters that monitor the track levels,,and are your tracks anylized by the software ,,once the gain levels are set by the software,i had no problem keeping the bar levels in the meter below or at the threshold for the red led to blink ,,,it did seem that the sc was at least double the output from U-Mix and using the installed sc on computer,,also sounded better/fresher ,

Without doubt, the sound quality is way better!

Yes, the tracks are fully analyzed. ;)

From what you're saying, I maybe need to work with the gain levels.

Still curious as to the effect of the volume control program I downloaded?

Personally, I like the volume coming OUT of the SC or controller to be at a level where I don't have to worry about it, and do any necessary adjustments from the mixer. I always set up my system so that everything works at its best at 0db, giving me the the option to increase/decrease the volume from track to track if I need it. Even with analyzed tracks I find that the volume do differ sometimes.

 :?: now i did keep the track gain levels at mid postion and with the anylised levels in play the master was set to below clipping, also limiter is set to on ,, then used my volume on amp for sound system control    if you have the output going in to a mixer ,,would the mixer be double amping it to a level thats too high  try checking by hooking the output straight to your sound system and see if the levels become manageable

Thanks Daniel - the sound seemed way too high going into the Control Pro, or at least before it got to the fader/eq stage. Hoping that I can fix it by using the gain controls.

I'm hoping that the gain controls limit the 'input'. ;)

Got the issue fixed - for anyone who is interested, here is how I did it:

Connected everything as normal and set my mixer to 0db as usual.

Set both the volume and gain knobs on the Control Pro to zero.

Started the program, and played a track.

Brought the master volume up to 50%, then adjusted the gain knobs until the sound was at the correct level - just below the clipping point.

Now I'm a happy boy! I can adjust the levels very finely now, using the gain knobs, and also the sliders on my mixer.

All is good! :D

That's exactly what I thought - I never have my amps above 50-60%, and love having my mixer at 0db - gives me so much more flexibility.

It scared me that I was getting so much distortion and clipping! Thought I was gonna blow something up and I really don't want to replace anything just yet!
