I think I read something like this, yes. Different format of collections in 1.7 and 2.1, opened with one not being able to open it with the other version. Sorry, Dan!

 well the perplexing senerio is that if trying to open a collection that originaly started in cross1.25,,i guess, modified by all ver since and fianly modified by 2.1 ,,should it not still be intack to use in 2.1,,,,,so in order to open a version earlier than 2.0 ,,i will need to set up a colection just for that version,, and how do you stop it from trying to open a collection from 2.1 and negating that collection for use   :frown:

Just remember you can never have to many 'backups'!

Already told ya guys, stop rolling back with collection.
When you need to test a new version, do it on a copy of your collection.

The reason is that for each version there are slight changes (samplers, trees, and so on). All these new database columns/tables are not handled by older version.
So we are trying to do a proper compatibility when upgrading, but downgrading will never be a straight process.

What you can do is give the version number to your collection :
- open Cross 1.7
- make a collection : music_1.7
- put all your track inside
- quit to save
- re-open Cross 1.7
- save as : music_2.1
- open Cross 2.1

If you load music_1.7 into Cross 2.1 you'll break it for Cross 1.7, so don't !
Each software version have to use its own database version.

Unfortunately, Cross always reload the latest used one (settings stored), so beware when switching back and forth to create a new empty one before switching.

To Support:

Perhaps you can have the instructions that you have just relayed to us in the download section of each upgrade so that this does not happen to many people. To be honest with you, this is the first I have read about how the collections operate!

Thanks
