Cross 2.01 messed up my mp3 tags!

I'm very obsessive about tagging my mp3s. I add the cover art and information in myself, instead of using software to look it up for me.
This is obviously time consuming when you have hundreds and hundreds of mp3s.

So Imagine my surprise when every song that I played in Cross 2.01 had it's genre information changed to "other" and the cover art deleted.

This never happened in any other versions of Cross, and I thought I would make it known so others could avoid this possible problem. Of course checking the box that instructs Cross to "not save changes" stopped this problem, but it shouldn't have made these kind of changes in the first place. The older versions didn't do that. Why would this one?

Now I have the (fun) of re-tagging all these mp3s that got messed up. I'm just glad I noticed the issue when I did.

From where did you see that the tags have been deleted/modified. From Cross or from an other application ?

Actually I can't reproduce your issue within Cross, VLC, mp3tag. Once read/written into Cross, nothing have changed on the files, verified by re-importing into a new collection or into other softwares.

It deleted them from showing up in Windows XP and viewing my file details. It also made the cover art no longer show up in Windows Media Player as it used to.

The cover art would still show up in Cross 2.01 itself but became invisible when viewing file details in XP or using Windows media player.

Songs that weren't analyed and played in Cross do not have these problems.

Just switching the view off does not mean the data is deleted from the mp3!

You did not make any changes to the ID3 tags itself, you've just changed the view in the Windows Explorer from what I could extract from your descritption.

I have Windows showing all of my file details and it showed genre tags had been changed to "OTHER"

I looked at the mp3s in an mp3 tagging program and it showed the cover art as no longer being there.

But yes, in Cross everything still showed up properly.

I'm not worrying about it anymore I guess. I'm putting everything back the way it was now.

Its something to do with the 'tagging program' and Cross not liking each other. I had this problem a long time ago using 3rd party software To tag tracks, and it drove me mental. Best to just use plain old explorer to change id3 info in the end, even though it takes longer
Cheers

You've got the issue with the file explorer of windows XP ?
Sorry but it's not the best things on earth to benchmark tag handling.

Because I don't have the issue with W7 : see my point ?
Again, check with a tag editing software or an up to date media player.

Here is a list of working with I have tested against Cross :
Tag & Rename; mp3tag.de; VLC; MediaMonkey; S*r*t*, W7 files explorer.

Now I'm going to find a Windows XP to report back your issue to developper's team.

Hi,

I am taking up this old topic as I have similar problems with (meanwhile) Cross 3.3.11. When I put tracks into a new playlist the tags in the Windows Explorer dissapear. They will be shown again after I save the tags again in MP3Tag (which still shows the tags).

Does anyone know what the reason for this might be?

Thanks.
