Beat Griding

Postby anto1979 on 21 Apr 2012, 09:58

First of all new to this forum so Hello !

I am aware the Cross manual covers beatgriding(bg) in detail but my questions relate more to the practical side (Just to fill you in i am vinyl DJ who has added a U-Mix Control Pro to his set up so completely new to the digital scene)

Firstly i cant find any youtube/online tutorials on bg , are the principles on Cross DJ the same as tractor ? i.e can i use those youtube tutorials ?

When do you need to bg your tracks ?, is it only certain tracks ? ,i spin deephouse mostly so what are the practical benefits when it comes to mixing/playing a set, if i am mostly beat mixing by ear ?

When mixing using Cross i notice sometimes the visual bar's are out (i.e not orange) yet i can hear the beats are in time ? , how can this be ?, is this examples of tracks i need to manually beatgrid ?

Im just wondering whether its worth my time learning the process & going through my tracks or if not really necessary...any advice ?

Again sorry if these questions are a bit lame but this more scientific approach to music is new to me and i want to get the best out the features digital has to offer. :)

thanks

First - as many softwares Cross is sometimes not as accurate as it shlould be, so you need to go through tracks and adjust the grid.

SInce sometimes the grid is only place inaccurate, but the BPM is very very accurate, and if you mix with ears you don't really need the baetrid.
But it is useful to start learning these.

Look at this

Here you can find tutorials for the software, tutorials for the collections, and so on.

As I remember, in every Traktor turorial they adjust the beatgrid manually :D You can do it here, it is easy to get used to it, and helps a lot :)

Hello
Beatgriding works only on regular tempo.....4/4 for instance tek/elektro.......
You put one marker at the beginning of the track and go to the end and see if every thing are aligned. But don't forget the phase because kicks don't have the same waveforms....so you could have very bad sound when pushing a sync button ; ).....ears are your friend......
tchuss.....

You are welcome..... :)
and don't forget: beat griding is not a shame, that's a tool, and you can go forward with it in a "live set mix" and transform your controller as a powerful sequencer ......... :)
just my point of view......
