Gaps in Audio Playback

I am still experiencing gaps in the audio playback every now & then. I have analysed all of the tracks I want to play but when I am playing them every now & then I will get a maybe half second where the sound cuts out.

Before I started my set I went to task manager & stopped everything running on the PC except the bare neccessary & I mean to the point that I stopped things that were needed & had to go back & replace them. So basically there is nothing else I can stop. I am assuming that these gaps are caused by the CPU being overloaded, like when you are playing one track & you load a track that wasn't analysed previously?

I checked & most of the time when playing a set the CPU is running at around 10-20% and used memory at around 30%.
In the config part of Cross I have Preferences > Audioo Cache set at 30%.
Thanks in advance...

Hey,

from what source do you get your music? internal HDD, external? USB flash drive and so on?

You could also test to set the Cache at Cross to 0% and test it again. Is it still the same?

When you run HDD internal or so please run a defragmentation on all discs like the HDD with the music and also the disc where you store the PEAK files.

Regards
Christian

Hi Christian,
The files are all on the internal drive. Will try the other things before I play out again. Are there any settings on the audio card that can be changed?

Thanks!

Hey,

you can decrease the Latency but I would first check the other options and if this will not help you should test to set a higher latency and run a test if it is better.

Check also if like firewall or anti virus software is running. This can cause drop outs too when checking files or so.

regards
Christian

Your PC is already opmtimised, is it? (CPU-Priority set to background-services)

Do you have a dedicated grafix-card on your system?

@j-kut.

I have a dedtcated graphics card (ati mobility radeon™ hd 3430).

I went into task manager > Processes> right clicked on cross-dj.exe.

It has settings:

Realtime
High
Above Normal
Normal
Below Normal
Low

It is set now (default) to Normal.

Thanks!

Check Realtime!

Also if possible (given you can switch grafix-cards) try running Cross with the integrated grafix-card (intel HD/GMA) and see if it helps.

To set the cpu for Audio do the following:

Click the Windows-Icon (Keyboard or Explorer) -> Computer
-> systempreferences (left to install/deinstall programm) -> advanced preferences -> advanced -> Visuals/CPU -> Cpu set to background tasks.
