Akai LPD-08 questions

Postby BennyB on 28 Dec 2011, 18:19

Hi guys. I saw a couple of threads about it, but most of them were french.

So I need some info about LPD-08's compatibility, and useability with Cross. I wanna get one.

ThX.

(Or if you can link an English thread about this it will be appreciated ;) )

I'd like to chime in!

I do have a LPD8 that I (would like to) use with Cross.

It works very well except for one thing: you can't use the pads in CC mode.

To me it's a problem because it just cuts the number of pads by 2 and it won't let me do mappings the way I want (unlike some competitors) but hopefully it will be fixed soon. I sure do hope so at least.

For you, maybe it's not a problem, in which case you can just go ahead as it's a nice sturdy little controller.

Edit: It seems like that problem mentioned above actually has a workaround which I've been invited to try so I'll update accordingly.

If someone wants to map an CC command with the Akai on Cross to an Button.
You have to set it as Trigger Fader/Knob and the Range 0 to 0. Then you can use it as an normal button to enable /disable a function.
I use it to set the Loop In / Out and loop buttons with the CC mode and it works well.

Christian

Hi there,

Here are some explanations about this preset.

Note: It's only for trigger controls (Loop IN, Loop Out, Sync, Match, CuePlay, Pitch Reset, etc.), other presets are available for Logic (Play/Pause, Loop On/Off, etc.) and Integer (FX, Locators, pitch modes, pitch ranges, etc.).

Christian's proposal is not bad at all but can be improved to better fit your CC config.

By setting [0, 0] as the "trigger range", you tell Cross to execute the command when the CC value is 0.
On most CC pads, 0 is the value corresponding to "pad release", i.e. the command will be triggered on "button up".

You may want to trigger it on "button down", and give a range corresponding to the "down" state value (depends on how your controller is configured). For the basic cases
- not velocity sensitive: [100, 100]
- velocity sensitive: [1, 100]
should do the trick (100 being equivalent to 0x7f in these boxes).

Moreover, the "on the edge" option tells Cross to trigger the command only on transition (value geting in range or getting out range, but not staying in/out), meaning two successive value in-range will trigger the command only once. Depending on your controller config, it might be useful.

I agree that's not very simple, but it works!
Might be simplified in the future... ;)
