U-Mix44 Static

Postby AbbandonZK on 22 Oct 2011, 08:06

I'm have a serious static issue with the U-Mix44. I'm running two Denon Dn-S3000s, and for mixing a choice of either a Hercules MP3 E2 Mixer with jog wheels or a Dj-Tech DJM-101 mixer. From there I have two program choices I'll either use Virtual DJ 7 or Deckadance. When I use the 44 in Virtual DJ and Deckadance I have to use the ASIOforall driver because I have a Creative X-Fi soundcard for 5.1 sound. Ill load a song and maybe two minutes in or so the static begins. I tried changing the buffer size from 512-256 on both the X-FI and 44 an I still get static. I even tried plugging the RCA cables into the 5.1 speakers and the static was there. Also the little light for the outputs was flickering like it wasn't getting enough power. All my usb ports are 2.0s and I updated the 44 drivers. The weird thing is that the static doesn't appear on the final recording when I chose to record using the in-program options. The only way I managed to capture it is with the whatuhear option for creative sound cards.

~Edit One: The time-code signal is fine from the denons the static occurred and there was no change to the signal wave form.

Are you using a Laptop or PC?

If you're using a laptop try running on the battery and see if the "Static" disappears.

If it does then you have a Ground Loop problem, which can be easily cured.

Oh OK

You could possibly try a Ground Loop Isolator and see if this cures the problem.

They are quite cheap and can be brought from eBay, Amazon or if you are in the states, Radio Shack.

Ok so I should grab two of them a have them

(Power Cable)- Denon-(Ground Loop)\
(Power Cable)- Denon-(Ground Loop)\
U-Mix44
Computer
5.1 sound-Has its own power cable.

Also the RCA cables that I have now are 50Ft would they have caused the problem?

I tried attaching the headphones to the L and R of output 1 and the static was there but less and the flickering light didn't come on.

I don't really know about that, I'm no Sound Engineer ;)

There are a couple of guys, here on the forum could possibly answer that better than I could.

50 ft. is crazy ;)

thats like the longest antenna i´v ever seen, no wonder you have interferences in you signal.
Where i come from we call that "radio eriwan", just like when you´re playing guitar/bass and all of a sudden you´re hearing some radio/cellphone over your amp.

since rca is no balanced signal, i´d never have the cables longer than 12 ft.

Update 1. So far I've disconnected everything from the computer that I am not using and the only progress I've made is that if i hold the decks long enough i can get the sound to go away but when I release it comes back.

Update 2. Switched one of the RCA cables to a smaller length almost got thru an entire song before static started. Removed longer cable static remained. Slightly removed white cable from second output and static went away without losing sound signal.

Update 3. When switching outputs in audio menu from primary sound driver to U-Mix44 static then back static disappears. Conditions in previous updates still remain.

Hi there, I think i had the same problem with U-mix44. I accidently found a way to stop the static. It'll sound funny but try whether its working with u or nt.

All i did was after opening the software, kept the sound settings panel in windows on and keep the 'recording' tab on, nt the 'playback' tab. Hopefully u won't get the static again. It worked with me.

Good luck...
