Great! Even if no programme is running besides Cross the "stream of sound" through your machine might cause "trouble". It is worth a try because the adapters cost next to nothing. Let me know if this works for you!

untill you get a adaptor ,, run Cross with the U-Mix Control Pro and select dual stero routing mode in audio preferences select the controlpro as sound card set upas if you where connecting it up,, turn the mix master knob to mix and listern/look as you run Cross and see if the same glitches occure ,,turn the out put down on the main out, listen thru the headphones on the U-Mix Control Pro,, this is the set up you will be using except both channels are being monitored thru the headphones ,,if glitches occurer then we still have a problem lets us know

Power supply did Cross my mind. Also because I fitted the new RAM, which I believe runs at a higher voltage.

This morning's test: Already had an adaptor, so reconnected everything as per the very detailed diagram provided. It hasn't changed anything unfortunately - I clicked full-screen as I'd forgotten and the same break-up of sound occurred. Plus, I was editing a beatgrid and Cross froze, became totally unresponsive. I ctrl-alt-deleted and then the "Are you sure you want to exit?" dialog appeared and I could use it again. Just downloading a screen recording program to show you what it happening.
