I think that's a typical problem with the soundcard routing. the (gorgeous) VFX-Controller has three outputs. Be sure that output NR. 3 (!!!) is your headphones (in the preferences) and that the MIX knob is in the right position.
But be careful!!! this controller has one of the LOUDEST headphone outputs you will find on the market. it's enough to play some nice BOOTH speakers...
So check twice that headphone volume is not at the max.
