U-Mix44 - Mic Recording setup issue

Postby matheusandradepinto on 08 Apr 2016, 22:09

Hey guys!

I've recently acquired a secondhand U-Mix44 interface, and I know it's a pretty old device (can't find much information about it the forum and no reference whatsoever on the site), but maybe you guys can help me with my issue.

Setup: Mic, U-Mix44, Headphones, Laptop speakers, FL Studio on Windows 10. Nothing else.

I'm trying to set up a mic for recording through the jack input, but I don't seem to get any sound no matter what ASIO input/output options I select in FL Studio. When plugging the mic into an amp and then into U-Mix44 (or directly into U-Mix44 with a compressor VST to raise gain in FL), it seems to send a really low signal to the DAW, but I can't hear it on the headphones or speakers.

However, when plugging in a guitar the same way was immediately able to hear it and it had a strong signal on my DAW's mixer. My mic is not great, but then my guitar isn't either  so I don't think that should be the issue.

Any thoughts? I'd appreciate your insights!

I don't know the U-Mix 44 so not sure if you can record at all via the um44. However as you state you do have your guitar audible it may be possible.

However your quitar has power, which makes it possible to create line level input. Also most likely your guitar has mono jack, most likely not balanced.

A mic has a low power, that requires amplification. For the cable you need to know if your mic is mono, and may have a balanced jack.

So it's a bit guessing, but there is a chance that your cabling through the mix pre-amp isn't right.
