Been a bit since I have posted to the forum, so excuse me in advance if this has already been mentioned.
I'm having an issue where when I switch between a playlist and my library, Cross "Hangs" for 5-10 seconds and then comes back.
The ONLY thing that doesn't stop is audio output - everything else - the Interface, Video Output, Waveforms, etc - all lock up and Windows behaves as the software is "Not Responding" (right down to the white-ish overlay and "Not Responding" showing up in the title bar in the top left) After some time has passed, the screen flashes back, and everything resumes as normal.
It happens intermittently, and I can't seen to track down the issue, as nothing has changed in my system.
I primarily use Videos now, but my laptop is a powerhouse (see specs) and sometimes it's a non issue. My machine has an SSD for the OS, and all the Videos are on the second INTERNAL HDD, so I know its not a USB issue, etc. All my drivers are current.
The only thing I can seem to relate it to is Windows Updates, but that doesn't make sense to me, as again, it happens randomly. Sometimes it even clears up mid set (i.e. at the beginning it "hangs" when switching, and by the end of a 5 hour set, it's no longer doing it)
I see this behaviour in my 'master' collection which is like 80k tracks.
a collection of some k files responds instantly.
More general issue could be anti virus. You could try running without. Other option may be a power save setting that stops drives from being active.
Could you also specify how you change. Are you using a playlist in the node dock at the left, or are you switching in the collection tree. If so to which of the 'high level' branches.
I primarily see the behavior when I click on "All Video" in the Media Browser (I don't use pure audio nearly as much any more, so I can't say if the behavior is the same) after looking at a playlist or history item.
I Run Avast Anti Virus, which is one of the least resource hungry Anti Virus' out there.
All my power management settings are set so everything is always on, all the time
I only have 2,960 Video Files.
It's totally random when it happens, and I am not really sure what could cause it.
