CrossDJ 3.1 track gain is broken

Postby discopex on 18 Apr 2014, 10:34

Gain changes are not registered via track info panel. Say you change the gain from 0.0 to -2.0, the display will show -2.0 but go click on another track and return to the previous one, it still shows 0.0. You can also hear that it doesn't do anything, the track does not become louder or quieter when changing gain. :!:

Hopefully this will get fixed in the next release. Using version 3.0 meantime as I pretty often need to change gains to have optimal sound quality (auto gain cannot always get it right). ;)

No PC at hand so couldn't try. Did you try opening gain column and use that. Might also be handier for frequent use.

Yes, exactly that, behind info panel. I'm always on external mixer mode.

I have a similar issue: If I set the gain via the gain column while the track is loaded it works at that time.
But when any track is loaded Cross ignores the previous gain setting (still visible in the gain column), and auto-gains the track instead ( there is no visible evidence of this other than the meter jumping straight into the red).

**Edit:

Sorry, I was having a senior moment. I enabled "Read track gain at Load" under General Settings and everything appears to work as it should.

**Edit 2:

Actually no,it's still broken, and Cross will load the same track into each deck with different gains.

A gain problem persists in v3.2.0. This is clearly audible and it is (with the occasional crash and using up all RAM issues) a showstopper so I have to keep using 3.0 (only wish 3.0 had the revamped bifilters...).

Songs that play nicely in 3.0 and don't go RED play WAY louder (clipping) in v3.1.0 and 3.2.0. External mixer setting. As you know, there's no way but to tweak the gain behind info panel to make it sound better since this is pre-mixer stage clipping.

I did a screen capture for a song in 3.0 and 3.2.0 on the exact same moment, watch the VU meters. There is a definite flaw somewhere in post-3.0 gain structure...

Song in 3.0, the metering looks safe.

And the same exact time in 3.2.0, overloading the channel.

I also tried a second song but for some reason couldn't reproduce the VU meter issue.
