Mp3 encoder is not freeware. Most programs creating mp3 require user to add an encoder as workaround. Meaning it is not controlled by Cross. This could result in unexpected behaviour.
Converting audio takes cpu capacity. Meaning higher specs needed.
Also a lower bitrate never sounds as good as a high bitrate. Once low it cannot be upgraded.
