Music keeps stuttering/skipping during live set

Hey everyone,

I have a U-Mix Control Pro and I use the latest version of Cross DJ (2.60).

I've been having a problem during live sets for a while now. The music often stutters/skips noticably. This happens mostly when performing simple actions on the controller, like scrolling through my collection, loading a song onto the other player or pre-listening on the other player.

I don't know if the problem is the controller, the software or the laptop. Sometimes I use a friend's controller (same model) and the same thing happens...

Everything is up to date and no other applications are running, except sometimes Notepad. There is plenty of free space on my hard drive.

My laptop is only a little older than a year and supposedly it's a pretty good one. I have an Asus N56VZ-S4016V running Windows 7 (64bit).

(Let me know if any other specific info is needed)

Is it possible that the vibrations from the PA system are making the whole setup jitter? Should I try to cushion it somehow, like people do with turntables?

On the other hand, this also happens at home when I'm only using headphones. When recording a mix, there is no trace of the stuttering in the recording, even though I can hear it clearly while I'm doing the set.

Should I change the buffer size? Right now it's at the default 2048 samples (46.4ms).

I'd appreciate any suggestion!

First, check to see if stuttering occurs through your computers sound card without your controller.

Then, if it doesn't, the problem is in the attached controller and sound card. If you have access to a different sound card, or could borrow one, see if you can use the borrowed soundcard and the MIDI controller to see if the stuttering happens then. If it happens with a borrowed sound card, it's most likely the MIDI controller. If it doesn't happen, it's the sound card you are using.

The buffer size you are using is huge, so it shouldn't be an issue. Just out of curiosity, do you get stuttering using 512 or 256? Cause if you don't, you will probably have better response time of your controls.

strange ,,, every thing you pointed out says this shouldnt be happening
does your friends controller act the same on his set up
the default buffer seems a bit high ,,,,what sample rate is that at
as djphadeon suggested try to isolate the sorce or cause of the stuttering ,,
you say this has been going on for a while,,what changed when it started happening
how are you recording your mixes ,,
havent seen two many issues with win 7 ,,or 64 bits and use of the control pro,,,
what are your power saving sceme set at on your laptop
last to suggest the computer optimising program advance system care
or if you have access to another computer try installing the software and see whats different ,,
by the spec listed in my siginature ,, have run all versions with slight problems ,,some being better than others ,, right now running the rc 3.0r2 ,,with no issues and even trying to run vids with it ,,barely,,
give us info as to what you try and findings to help get it sorted ,,
thease are audio glitches not just visual in the gui
