Fact!

Tried it at a different system (Ubuntu 12.10) with the same behaviour: I can configure everything correctly but cannot get sound, neither in nor out. Even media player sound is not streamed through it.

Unless someone has got another idea this device is broken.

Lesson learned: never store equipment, use it ... maybe it just could not handle the british air?! ... Can't express how annoyed I am ...

How long have you had it, Steve?

I think Hercules give a 2 year warranty on there products, but I maybe wrong though

I'm storing my devices at home into a not used bedroom with the heater to max position to avoid humidity.

I've contacted my vendor and they want to have it sent in for repair/exchange. I'll send it in and hopefully get a new one.
