Against All Odds - Cross Controllerism

So yesterday I had a unique experience, and I'm sure the audience and the Jury had one too: I attended a "Who-Knows-What" type talent show, in local town, where I stood on stage with my pack of controllers (MV Control Pro, Akai MPK Mini), my Laptop running Cross, and me and my nasty T-Shirt, and silly hat, and as from the faces I've seen during packing up on stage, I was like: Jeese these guys haven't seen stuff like this.

It was fun, 'cause I introduced myself not as a DJ, but as a Controllerist, and explained the crowd that ts is very similar to pianists and Guitarist, but the instrument is different. I also added that like a guitar can broke a string mid-performance, my stuff can crash on me, so if that happens, my show will end with a beautiful windows Shutdown sound.

I wasn't that nervous before, my hand-vibration was visible, and we had litle problem putting sound out, as the main stage guy forgot to tell the technicians to pull up the fader on my F-ed Up channel... Finally sound comming out in the form of kicks and snares fingered manually, so I started the show.

I used everything in Cross, both controllers. I set up my controller stand, so it can hold both controllers, and in a way, that it was leaning towards the crowd, so they could see WTF I'm doing there.
I started a finger drumming sequence using only a kick and a snare, and than loops made from the same stuff, and started to layer my sh*t on top of it :D

I actually used the fact of my PC, and ha a little trick of putting together a nice windwos error sound sequence and putting a shutdown sound to the end (The XP ones, everyone know them), laughter all over the place, untill I pressed play again, to start the second half of my performance.

In the end, I was like: Controllerism works, and the miracle, that my stuff didn't fail on me, it was FUNtastic feeling :D

So against oll odds, here is some specs with my stuff, to finish this post, and buttom note:

CONTROLLERISM WITH Cross IS POSSIBLE! I'LL WORK TO BRING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL (Me and the software as well)!

Ps: Didn't record it yet, I think I'll rather make a vid about it, but maybe next month.

Specs:
4 year-old ASUS F5V AP055 laptop:
Inter T2130 CPU (1,8 GHz)
2 GB DDR2 667 MHz memory (2 1-gig modules in each slot).
500GB SATA Samsung HDD (Handled in IDE mode, no SATA suport :D )
Ati X2300 VGA (128MB internal Graphic memory, a fine GPU unit)
4 USB slots  (3 on side, one on back).
Hand-hacked turbo fan :D
Notebook cooler stand

Controllers:
U-Mix Control Pro (USB Powered - factory mapping)
Akai MPK Mini (USB powered, handled locators and samples, bi-filters, and sample volume levels).
Note: I mapped my Mpk Mini to handle both samplers in the same time mapping the piano keyboard to handle sample triggers, and I used the pads, for locators. During the performance, I only used one of the samplers.

Used stuff in Cross:
U-Mix Control Pro soundcard, buffer size was 512 XD
all 8 locators (Fatboy Slim - Rockafeller Skank, and Sampler C filled up, with drumloops and drumhits).
Used bipolar filters
Used Brake and Rolleffects
+45% pitch on first track full of locators - Master Tempo on (no Quantize - controllerists don't Quantize  )

I only could make a while you see my screen, and not what I'm doing there, but it's a working progress.

Hah dz you came second, but I haven't got a video to prove it!

Good job man, i thought i was the only controlerist here.
For now Cross doesn't help a lot, but we could help it help us though :)

Till then i'll be playing with my ableton setup as well (which doesn't help my need for timecode control, in my controllerism sets btw)
