Hey Guys
I just had a meeting with microsoft and got chatting to one of there rep's after the meeting and I mentioned that from time to time i get pops and clicks during audio applications and i cant seem to find the solution. the MS rep put me onto a guy within the dev team in the US who was extremly helpful He explianed to me that the way that windows 7 checks the battery level can cause CPU spikes as it polls the battery every 5mins or so
how to fix this
Right click My Computer (or is it just Computer now?) Choose Properties Click on "Advanced system settings" in the column on the left Choose the Hardware tab and click on the "Device Manager" button Click on the + next to Batteries, right click on "Microsoft ACPI-CompliantControl Method Battery " right click and choose "disable"
I have re run DPC latency Checker and found that I no longer get yellow spikes and the average is around 200 using the internal laptop soundcard I will test with the U46 tonight and see how things go
but from what the MS guy was telling me is this will be the root cause to your issue
the only thing by disabling the device means you no longer have a battery icon or monitoring on how long you have left in the battery

Testing it today! Finally Cross has still the problems described in "my" thread. Configured a lot, but it does not run without sound scratches :-/ So I try everything that is recommended. Thanks a lot for that mates! Steve

Its how windows knows how much battery is left this is so the battery meter in your taskbar is correct. However 99% of laptops have there own warning light to tell you your battery is going dead. I doubt MS will release a fix as a everyday user not DAW or any audio application user will not be affected by this.

to be honest i do not know as all my machines are now win 7 ill see if i can find someone who still has XP running and test it
but if you are having audio pops try disabling it and see if it works for you

Disabled battery check(on XP), and still glitches here and there- It Seems loading/playing from the embedded iTunes directly seems to make this happen often - Even if tracks are pre-analyzed, or ALREADY in a collection that is pre-loaded. Never did this in 1.2.5 version, as this was how i have been using Cross alot previously *(Pre-loaded and pre-analyzed all tracks from the iTunes library into a 'collection' to store peak/bpm/waveform/track info, as to not stress the CPU during live performance; so as to use embedded iTunes as the playing interface <as the collection tagging system was bug ridden in 1.2.5 > ) Cheers
