Please help

Postby davideast31 on 16 Dec 2009, 23:50

Hi

I have been having a number of problems which some people have tried to help with but I still have them. Ive just done a complete reinstallation of the latest version of Producer with the hope that it would fix them- it hasn't! Any help would be much appreciated.

1- id3 tagging. When I scan new tracks alot of them get duplicated with a xxxxxx file. I understand what you should do with these (its a time consuming pain in the ass! ) and Ive been able to do this before butat some point my duplicate files dont have a xxxxxx to delete so I if I remove the original file all the info doesnt transfer across (it stays as a mixvibes file).

2-If I scan large folders for BPMs alot of files get missed. The scanner will work if I scan smaller batches. Not too much of a problem but a little odd!

3- If I right click on the track screen (where the bmp is displayed) and click analyze bmp automatically I get the result 0.0 but if I right click the track in the media base window I get the bpm.

4- Is it possible that the bpm reader is less accurate then on the initial install? It doesnt seem to be as reliable as before and it has never seemed to work as well or as simply as virtual DJ. I know you can manual check bpm but this is not ideal with large music files. Its not that its way out, the dfference is normally only a few bpm.

5- The jog wheels on my hercules RMX work but you can only spin them so fast, about + or - 1.5bpm. Any faster and they stop working. Its a bit of a pain when its all going wrong and Im trying to line things up in a hurry!

Also can someone tell me or point me on the right direction for 2 things-
1- How do I get a 32 bar loop on the skin im using (carbon V2)?
2- When I add cue points/ locations to tracks where do they get saved. Are they saved to your session or do you have to save id3 tag?

Sorry to go on but I really want to get these things sorted. It is party season after all :D

Many thanks

Dave

If you use the column 'file' in the mediabase, are those file in the same directory with the same name ?

2-If I scan large folders for BPMs alot of files get missed. The scanner will work if I scan smaller batches. Not too much of a problem but a little odd!

The files that wasn't analyzed in the first large batch if you scan them after (the defective ones) does they get analyzed ?

3- If I right click on the track screen (where the bmp is displayed) and click analyze bmp automatically I get the result 0.0 but if I right click the track in the media base window I get the bpm.

What type of media is it ?

Not far as I know, but talking of competitors I always find small differences between them but which one is better depend of the genre and how complex is the percussive part.

5- The jog wheels on my hercules RMX work but you can only spin them so fast, about + or - 1.5bpm. Any faster and they stop working. Its a bit of a pain when its all going wrong and Im trying to line things up in a hurry!

The seek function is not mapped on this controler.

1- How do I get a 32 bar loop on the skin im using (carbon V2)?

You can't with the skin, you could with a MIDI edition.
2- When I add cue points/ locations to tracks where do they get saved. Are they saved to your session or do you have to save id3 tag?

In the peak file I guess.

go into the "preset" folder of mixvibes.
open "beat.txt" search for line wich beginns with "norm"
add "32" at the end of the line.

Thanks for getting back to me guys, I appreciate the help!

support@vibes-
1-The files display normally in mixvibes itself but when I open windows explorer the duplicate files are displayed. The problem now is that the file finishes with .mp3. Its still listed as a xxxxxx file in the file column. Without the xxxxx to delete in the track name the track information does not swap to the duplicate when I delete the original track  .
2- Most files will scan when scanned in smaller batches. Some just read 120.0 when scanned in big batches. This isnt too much of a problem but I want to know that once my library is scanned and sorted I can just load a track when djing and have all the correct information there. Saving id3 tags through mixvibes doesnt seem to do this. I have been I saving its id3 tag, opening rapid evolution, clicking read tags and then write tags. Is this necessary?
3- All mp3s. Its means that I sometimes have to have the tracks scanned so that they are in the media base.
4- I am surprised by how many tracks are around 1-5 bpm out. Sometimes when I rescan (not in batch) I get a better reading but it certainly seems less reliable than it used to be, my old copy of 3dex did better.
5- My understanding is that the jog wheels should work like a record so if you wind them forward ti speeds up the track, wind it back to slow it down. This is what it always has done but at some point if I wind it more than a slow speed it stops working. Maybe this could be something to do with the controller signal.
1- I now have 32bar loop- thanks Marxon!
2- I dont think I phrased that question well. What do I have to do to make sure that when I load a track the locations, cue points etc are still there? Is it save session, save id3 tag etc?

Marxon-
1-Thankyou! Thats so easy!
2- As Ive said above the jog wheel works so that as I wind it fwd/bwd it speeds up/ slows down the track but I can only wind it fwd/bwd at a slow speed otherwise it stops working. With previous programmes and Im sure with this one in the past the faster I have wound the jog wheel the faster the track plays. Ive not thought to check the hercules forum, maybe its a problem with the controller?

Cheers, Dave

Hi davideast31,

sorry for this late answer.
my english is also not the best ;)
i have uploaded a MIDI file for you. try it.
if it doesnt help do the following things:
first please activate the "info" line of mixvibes. you find it in the same menu where you can activate all your windows.
now move your jogwheel slowly and write down what you see in the info line. and now move your jogwheel a little bit faster and write it down again. and finally move your wheel very fast and write it down again.
and dont forget to give some karma  thanks
greatz marxon

Mixvibes doesn't create any file, only peak files (*.vpk) and they're stored in one folder (the Mixvibes peak folder).

2- Most files will scan when scanned in smaller batches. Some just read 120.0 when scanned in big batches. You haved to select the file(s) before use the 'save to id3 tags' command.

3- All mp3s. Its means that I sometimes have to have the tracks scanned so that they are in the media base.

When you scan a folder you put the medias in the mediabase.
When you analyzed, you are computing datas for the content of the medibase : they're 2 different process.
You also need to save the mediabase if you want to avoid the process of re scanning on each session.

4- I am surprised by how many tracks are around 1-5 bpm out. Sometimes when I rescan (not in batch) I get a better reading but it certainly seems less reliable than it used to be, my old copy of 3dex did better.

It's a little bit weird but it does need a lot more testing on my side, because I don't understand what is the difference in analyzing 10, 100 or a 1000 files for a computer.

5- My understanding is that the jog wheels should work like a record so if you wind them forward ti speeds up the track, wind it back to slow it down. .
Something might be broken on the MIDI side...

As for this from my recent experience:
4- I am surprised by how many tracks are around 1-5 bpm out. Sometimes when I rescan (not in batch) I get a better reading but it certainly seems less reliable than it used to be, my old copy of 3dex did better.

Try a program of sort to calculate the BPM. I just got Mixed In Key (costs $$) from a recommendation from polocorp and I'm quite happy with it. If you use iTunes it can update the information in Pro 7.3xx if you will wait for the update otherwise you can copy from the program itself and under "edit infos" in MixVibes. It did take about 2 days to calculate about 13,000 songs in Mixed In Key and I have only found 1 song so far that it didn't update in iTunes.

Well check out http://forum.mixvibes.com/viewtopic.php?f=259&t=15733 where BPM software got covered.
